Topic Dog Boards / General / How do you keep stainless steel hob and oven clean.

Not long got  new cooker and hob, buts its stainless steel, it never looks clean, how do you keep it shining and clean looking, any ideas please???
- By flora2 [gb] Date 10.02.09 12:56 UTC
I clean mine with a damp cloth. Then I dry it with a teatowel so it doesn't rust. Then I put a few drops of baby oil on some kitchen roll and rub until it shines.

Always make sure you dry it after washing down with mild soapy water - it's wet marks that leave it looking it's absolute worse!

I have a SS cleaning spray too which gives it a nice finish after cleaning and leaves a very slight oily touch which helps make clean ups after cooking spills a lot easier too and also removes stubborn stains that haven't been cleaned thoroughly in the past (hmmm, things like dog nose marks LOL)

HTH Teri :)

I don't really bother with much, just wipe it down with a sponse and some neat Fairy and then a clean damp cloth to rinse.  It only gets filthy again when OH starts cooking dinner -lol.  Bit of vinegar gets rid of smears if we have visitors!

When I bought a SS fridge freezer from John Lewis I asked the 'man' how they kept all the appliances fingerprint free and he said they only ever used an E cloth so I bought some.   They are brilliant and only need to be slightly dampened then buffed off. I now use these cloths for everything and have stopped using products.
I have found fake E cloths in Lidl :-) Just as good :-)

Steam cleaner then a quick wipe down!  Muddy paw prints all over at the moment after the rain yesterday!

Agree with the drying and then a rub of some kind of grease, it used to be the used butter packets saved just for the job. Only necessary once a week or so so though :)

I clean my stainless steel extractor hood with baby oil on a piece of kitchen towel. A friend told me this tip and I was reluctant to try it out as I thought it would just make a greasy mess but eventually gave it a go and was really surprised that it actually works. It stays really clean and grease doesn't seem to stick to it :-) I but the value baby oil from Tesco and it lasts for ever :-)

yup same here

SS hob sprayed with warm water to loosen any food drips, then a rub with baby oil - makes it easier to clean next time too :-D

Are these the same as microfibre cloths?

If they are I use the microfibre ones for absolutely everything! Amazing things lol :-D

My ex hubby was a welder, when we had our SS cooker he said about using baby oil on it as thats similar to a product they used at his workshop to finish the products.

Yes Pugnut, microfibre cloths are the biz aren't they?.
I would think folk with green credentials would be snapping them up.... no more products just E-cloths and water.

E cloths for me too.  I use the window one on SS, great for windows and mirrors too.
