Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / My nephews Doberman Pup again!
- By diane74 [gb] Date 09.02.09 20:31 UTC
Hiya, my poor nephew is really having it with his pup Lola, she is 21 weeks now and boy does she seem to put him through it. First it was her eyes, but thankfully thats sorted. Something else now so I am turning to the wonderous CD again for some advice.
Lola had some blood in her stools (just a little) and they were pretty inconsistant ie a bit firm then really runny then firm (sorry lol) aswell as what looked like whitiesh specks in her urine, and peeing everywhere frequently, (urine infection??) this was about three weeks ago, so of course he took her to the vet, who again said in not so many words that his was neurotic, they told him the inconsistant stools were from over feeding her and the food she was on, (purina) they suggested jwb, rc, burns etc, they said she did not have an infection although they did not test her urine. He came away again confused, but did as suggested and he changed her food to jwb and cut it down, at first this did the trick her stools got better, now its happening again and she smells quite alot around her bottom, his girlfriend says like a metalic smell,(glands??) any ideas as to what could be causing this ? He has no idea what to do now as the vets don't seem to take him seriously, he is at the p.d.s.a although he has her insured, i've told him to go to another vet one who will be abit more sympathetic and understanding, I know he is abit worried, (not neurotic though!) but i've allways thought its better to be safe than sorry.

Many thanks Diane

Of course it is.  If this vet can't help than he needs to find a new one.  Blood in the stools is not healthy, nor is white specks in the urine and the strange odour.  These things need to be investigated before being dismissed.  Even if it does turn out that there is nothing wrong with her your nephew needs to be confident that the pup has been properly checked out before being told that.

Diane,

Your advice about seeing another vet is good advice.  It's exactly what any of us would do given your nephew's experience.

I know how annoying! They did say if you really want a test we could do one but from what him and his girlfriend said it was just said to shut them up! The good news is he is going to take her somewhere else to the Royal vets college, im confident now that things will be investigated properly. Thanks for your reply.
