Topic Dog Boards / Health / Speyed bitch still attracting attention

I had my little bitch speyed after she had her first season, because we have an older entire male, and keeping them apart during her season was a nightmare.  Now, Barney has started paying her attention again, following her everywhere, licking where she has been sitting and this morning tried to mount her.  I thought having her speyed was supposed to put a stop to this.  Her second season would have been due about now.  Can anyone offer any solution to this?  The bitch (Maisie) is obviously expelling some sort of scent.  Will this always happen?  I am afraid of Barney hurting her.

I would have her checked by the vet as sometimes an infection can cause a dog to be interested in this way.  Another possibility is that all the ovarian tissues was not removed and she is still cycling some hormones.

Could it be to do with her anal glands? just that im sure i was told, and im probably wrong, but the anal glands give off a kinda smell to other dogs, I had Lillie spayed too, but when her glands needed emptying, i did find that she attracted attention, and the same kinda thing happened to her.when they were empty it was fine.

I have a spayed bitch and every so many months or so my males take a great deal of interest in her for a couple of days or so then dont bother again.  I mentioned this to my vet and he says that they can sometimes still give off hormones which make the boys think she is in season.

Thanks for suggestion.  I am a bit worried about the fact that tissue could still remain in her.  I know that some owners (I read about it on an American site) request that ovarian tissue remain so that the hormones produced keep the coat in good condition and help prevent incontinence and obesity.  I would be concerned about infection though and if it doesn't stop in a couple of days, will take her back to vet.  I hope I don't have to pay too much for any 'investigations' though, as the tissue should have been removed during the £200 op.  I wonder how I stand with that?  I will mention it before she is examined I think.  Thanks again.
