hi all this is a follow on post i asked about my freinds bitch regarding mating etc. right to get to the point her bitch would be 5 weeks pregnant yesterday she rang me and asked me a couple of questions but i dont know so thought i would try my luck on here. as i said she is 5 weeks pregnant with little to no weight gain he nipples are very slightly pinker apart from top two (nearest head) are very pink and for about 2 weeks has had a clear mucous discharge from her rear nothing smelly and not all the time just noticed now and again. with those signs or maybee lack of would you think she had taken and was pregnant??
any help gratefully recieved

Sounds more than possible. Often, particularly with a maiden bitch, novices don't easily see the bitch is pregnant. With my breeds they often don't show at 5 weeks. I just know when they are.
hi
as far as i know this is her second litter and she is a giant breed i dont think i can say which.
hi foster ...she very well could be !!! at this stage they dont tend to show its normally the last 2weeks they all of a suddon get fat lol , she could go to the vets for a scan ?
as her bitch been off her food at any stage? does she seen to be more clingey (sorry my spelling is bad) she will need to change her food now to puppy ...change it over aweek so her girl dont get upset tum !!
hi
she is wary of the scans although i have said thousands use them but she thinks that it may cause some kind of abortion!!!
she normally feeds her 2 meals per day but is struggling with one at the moment she will eat but prefers either her morning or evening not both as she normally would do. her bitch usually lives a mix of inside and out but the last week or so barks at the door and is very reluctant to go outside (which is fine but she used to prefer being out) so now spends a large part of her day sleeping in the hallway.
i will tell her about change of food she may have already done so but will say just incase

Hi,
My sisters dog is (hopefully) just over six weeks pregnant and is a toy breed. Neither of us can decide if she is pregnant, she like your friends is a little off her food but this has only happened this week. She has a slight rounded tummy, and is more laid back than usual. Other than that we have had no other signs, with my girl she was obvious from the 3rd week and by six weeks had got quite big. She hasn't had her scanned because from peoples experience on here, they scans aren't always reliable. My only thought is she could be carrying 1 or 2, my girl had 5 puppies. She has everything in place, just in case and has even been worming daily as you can't take the risk. Good luck, x
hi everything is in order there just incase but she though that she might be showing (belly) by now but judging by white lillys response maybe she hasnt hit that stage yet. but the suspense is killing her but i would of thought having the clear dishcharge would of been a sign but then i dont breed so wouldnt really know?!?!?!?
ive had all mine scaned and lost none so it makes you wonder if things were just not right with the pups that ppl have lost ? scans (at the vets) usely only say yes or no ,ive always had a yes but would never tell me how many she was having !!
im just not sure about the discharge ? i know my girls had this but i carnt remember at the stage ...sorry !!x

At 5 weeks the puppies would still be quite high up. A dogs uterus isn't the same as a humans. It consists of the cervix and two arms. If you imagine it as a Y shape with the cervix being the bottom bit. The two arms of the uterus lie quite high up almost either side of the bitches spine. It's only when the puppies get quite heavy in the last couple of weeks that the arms of the uterus fold back on themselves and drop down into the abdominal region. It can be quite difficult to tell in a large breed at this stage, particularly if it is her first litter.
hi
thanks for all the advice i have told her that it may be another 2 weeks before she sees any noticeable weight gain. so fingers crossed for her
thanks again all. just wondered though does anyone else think the discharge is a sign of pregnancy??
im going to have a look in my book of the bitch and see !!
hi yes it is a sign :) it says from around the 35th day there is likely to be a discharge of opaque or white mucus from the vagina ,,,and this is fairly RELIABLE INDICATION OF PREGNANCY ...so yes :)
hi all, my bitch was mated last season, had the white discharge from about 4 weeks in, also had all the pregnancy signs including trying to go through labour, but turned out to be having a phantom, so this could also be happening with yours, although i have been told that the discharge is a fairly reliable sign of pregnancy.
She's been mated again this season and hasn't had any discharges at all and the only other sign at the moment is enlarged nipples.(she is a large breed dog) but has just been confirmed 6 weeks pregnant by scan today so in about 3 weeks we shall become proud parents(or is that grandparents)! Yippee x
hi icemaiden congrats :) , could your girl have reabsorbed her litter ...after 21 days....3 1/2 weeks till 5weeks this is when pups can go if this are going wrong inside her but her body thinks shes still pregnent ?

Congrats on your litter, only 3 weeks left!
Sorry guys, but being that my sisters is a small breed would you expect her to be showing by now? She was six weeks last wednesday! We have tried listening for heartbeats, but cannot be certain. I may reccomend that my sister has her scanned, to put us out of our misery!
hi white lilly, we think that is what happened as she had 2 successful matings, fooled us right until the end when we had to take her to the vets as she thought she was having them(as did we).
I've never felt so disappointed really, as we were all really excited, but i suppose it wasn't to be. That is the main reason we have had her scanned this time round so we can treat her accordingly, so she is almost 6 1/2 weeks gone now and seems to be progressing lovely, although hasn't shown too many signs of being pregnant at the moment, but i guess every dog is different. Can't wait until the big day comes
hi crofty, i would have a scan if the bitch doesn't get too stressed with going to the vets. My dog is completely oblivious to everything and isn't stressed easily, but if you have any doubts about the scan i would probably wait as there is only 3 weeks left. They should be due around the same time as my bitch is due, i didn't have a scan first time round as we were convinced she was pregnant, but had a phantom. I'm not too 'up' on small breeds pregnancies as we have always been 'big'dog people, but fingers crossed x
i have also read that small breeds are more obvious when pregnant, but i suppose it depends on how many she may be carrying, sorry can't be more help x
mum-in-laws girl (shih tzu) had a litter about 3months ago and her girl started showing about 6 1/2 weeks maybe 7 and then she just got massive and went on to have 5 babys :)
icemaiden i wish all the luck and hope your girl as a big wonderful litter (im sure she will) and all goes well for you and your girl xx

Update,
I saw my sister yesterday, we are 90% sure she is pregnant (the dog). I am sure i heard very faint heart beats and she does have a bigger belly. She is very fussy with her food, which is unheard of with her and she is very laid back. Just over two weeks to go!
good luck hope everything goes to plan x

Good luck with the litter, we too have mated a female 4 weeks ago, she is a novice female, so not sure either way if she is in whelp or not, going to ring my scan man tomorrow to put me out of my misery.
hi annastasia :) havnt seen you for a while :) ...my girl should be having pups around the same time as yours :) so good luck and let me know how the scan goes :) xx

Hi White Lilly, this is not the female we took to Germany it's another female, hopefully she is in whelp.

I am really gutted, I pursuaded my sister to take her bitch for a scan today. She should have been 7 weeks today, there was nothing. I feel realy sorry for her, she has to let down some lovely people and she is just as upset as had wanted one for herself. The vet was sure there was nothing there!
crofty
Im really sorry to hear about your sisters dog. She hasnt let anyone down, unfortunatly its just something that happens. Not your sisters fault and certainly not her dogs. Is she having a phantom preg? I hope that if she does mate her again then it all works out for them.
hi crofty, so sorry for your news, i know exactly how you feel having gone through the whole thing myself. Was probably best having the scan as now you can start treating her normally and not as if she's pregnant as she'll get over it alot quicker.
Fingers crossed for next time if you plan on mating again x

Thank you guy's. It is so nice to come on here and have support from you all. It is just one of them things and it wasn't meant to be on this occasion.

So sorry how disappointing, fingers xd for next time

I have had a number of bitches miss over the years, all have gone on to have litters next time they were mated.
It just goes to show how fertile they are as we wouldn't expect to catch first time on every cycle we tried ourselves.
It's amazing it works so often isn't it.
my freind is taking her bitch for scan at 6pm so hopefully will ring with good news when she returns!!
tell them good luck from me :) our girl goes on fri for her scan x

Good luck with your scans, nerve wracking time,
well my freind went for her scan and as above was told she wasnt pregnant she is really dissapointed but there is always next time i suppose.
im sorry to hear that :( ....my girls next plz keep fingers and toes crossed for her x
hi
it aint looking good its seems all these accidental litter are having great success (im not knocking anyone) and yet planned litter just arent happening. but wish you every luck with your white lilly let us all know x
thanks fosters i will post to let you know !!! lets hope i can brake the spell on planned litters !! x

Im sure you can White Lilly, best of luck with your girl
thanku annastasia :) when is your girl being scanned ? xx

Hi white lilly, we had our girl scanned last Thursday, confirmed carrying 9 puppies, OMG, she a 1st time mother 2, this however is not the female we took to Germany last year,
wow thats wonderful !!!:):):)......will you try with other girl again ? this is our other girls 1st litter too (if in whelp ?) same breed as u :)....
did you do 1 mating with this girl ?....we only had the 1 so fingers crossed xx
where did you go for scan ?.....our vets not say how many :( when thay scan !!

Hi White Lilly, as we already own the stud dog we had 2 very good matings, (we imported him 18 months ago) we know he will only mate them when they are ready, best of luck with your girl.
Yes we will try again in the Autumn with our other girl as want to have a good year in the showring this year, will hopefully take her back to the same stud in Germany

Forgot to say if the timing is right 1 mating is fine, 2 of his last females where only mated once (the owners choice as they had to travel and couldnt stay over for a second mating) both confirmed in whelp one carrying 8-10 puppies and the other carrying 6 puppies.
We use Keith from fit and fertile to scan the females, lovely man and so so helpful, have used him for years.
