Yesterday took all three dogs to the moor for a good run - they loved the snow of course and were dashing around like mad. My poor Westie though (who had her coat on) ended up with all four legs absolutely covered in icy balls. I had to put her in a warm bath on our return to get rid of them! Today I took the other two only to the moor but I saw a lady there with a cocker spaniel whose long ears were heavily weighed down with the "snow balls".
My JR and sheltie were completely unaffected - the sheltie's coat is perfect for snow - it just slides off and she has dainty little non-hairy legs!!
Who else has breeds which attract these little balls??
Snowflake

Raises hands in air!!! Feathering on feet and legs and it sticks like glue - I use warm water as well to melt them off - boys are scared of the water bucket though - idiots!!! Glad they are tall so they don't get on ears too though!

My Shelties and Collie don't get snow marbles but my GR gets them in her paws then stands there looking at you as if to say I can't walk now mum please carry me!!
My dog Freddie a miniature poodle was covered in them yesterday after we had a long walk in the snowy field. Didnt bother him at the time but as soon as we got home he was going mad trying to get rid of them and chewing at his leg. I ended up putting his legs (the main affected area) into warm water to melt them away.

My Berns get snow ball feet, knickers LOL, elbows, ears (Have to sniff everything!) and low lying belly fluffballs. Bucket of (Very scary) lukewarm water does the job getting them thawed out. A certain young lady had some very VERY
VERYcold Boobies, the snow was deeper in the garden than her legs and her bits dragged in the snow...Brrrr! Iced milkshake anyone LOL ;-) ;-)

we were out about 3 hours yesterday and the boys were hanging in them - great for slowing down two speedy setters.
im evil though, I just put them on their beds with the radiator on to defrost

You can put vaseline in the pads of dogs who suffer from this balling :-)
Yes I have a cocker and he had snow balls on his feet, his ears were enormous and his name tag was another snow ball, he also snow ploughed and had a wounderful time chasing snow balls and digging at snow men.
I gave his a quick rub down in the kitchen and left him there in the warm until he had shed his yeti feet. He then spent all evening rushing in and out of the snow!!
BC not a trace fell off his teflon fur a treat.

they get it on their feathering mostly, I keep their feet well trimmed so no problems there.

Winnie, my Sussex Spaniel, is the only one affected. The Goldies and Dobes have no problems. Poor Winnie, having such a low undercarriage, was covered from head to tail, practically from the minute we set off. Got some very funny photo's!!! I thawed her out with my dryer.

Don't fancy vaseline on my floors though!!! Can you imagine trying to vaseline 12 hairy great paws!!!!
Think I'll stick to the warm water. LOL

Took the Bedlies out today and within half an hour they all had snow leggings, the youngest was the worst, even her chest had snow balls :) when we got back home we all picked up a dog each and took them into the bath, a warm shower and a rub down later and they were fine :)
Is there a quick way to dry a cocker? I have a chamois which I use first, then a towell off. Next a hairdrier, but he isnt keen. I still get a damp dog on my lap for the rest of the evening.

You don't use that much vaseline and you put it up between the pads to stop uncomfortable balling :-)

Brush the snow Balls :-) out with a stiff brush (not wire) Then a brisk rub with the towel ..
Works well for us every time.
I had a few family members over yesterday and we all took our dogs for a fab snowy walk, most of our dogs were absolutely covered in snow balls my girl got the biggest laugh though as she had acquired a large pair of testicles. :-D
We have a bichon. Snow ball up his legs and particularly in his armpits :-)

Yep, Cavs and a Yankee, all covered in snowballs after even a short walk. Most of it melted out quickly once home and I brushed the remainder. :-)

I guess we usually get more snow than you but I have to tell you, none of your snowball tales can match my poor little ESS. I once saw her with a snowball under her tummy that was so big she could not put all four feet on the ground at once. That was the same day she got stuck between two close growing trees because she fit but the big snowball didn't. I had to stab at it and break it up with my ski poles. I skiied in the bush for 10 years with that dog but this one day the snow just packed up so quickly it was amazing and I never saw it happen so quickly again. I hope you are enjoying your snowfall. We love it.

some one said to me before going out rub the legs down with conditioner so the ice will not stick to the coat and then you will not get the build up of snow ball
OOhh I'll get the pantene out for him then.
