Hi, I just want to ask some advice, my Saint Bernard is now nearly 14 months old. Last time he was groomed was at start of october and about a week later he blew his coat. I thought nothing of it only hard luck he lost it so quick after me bothering to get it groomed. That was 4 full months ago, he shedded very heavily and alot of my friends that are more experienced with dogs reassured me it was becuase it was his puppy coat shedding and this would be the worst. Although he has stopped shedding as much he does not seem to be getting his thick coat back but only in patches, it is very light in my opinion for a rough coat saint. I show him and even in comparison to other dogs his age his coat looks quite poor. I've been recommended to use seaweed powder which I have been and told to try brewers yeast which I might give a go aswell but other that that I'm at bit of a loose end. He is my first saint so I'm not sure how normal or unnormal this is, I would nearly expect it more so from a female with seasons, etc but it really has suprised me with him and I'm starting to worry now, I really hope it's not linked to the groom... I would really appreciate any help or advice. Thanks

Hi there
I rescued an 18mth rough coat Saint, and when I first got him his coat was exactly as you describe.  I assumed it was the diet he'd been on so I put him on the BARF diet, and within weeks his coat looked fabulous.  If it's not diet related maybe it could just be adolescent hormones kicking in?  Either way I wouldn't imagine it had anything to do with the groom.

thanks, i really don't think it's diet as he has been on the same food from 6 months old and the coat he does have is in great condition and very shiny, it's the patchy bit that look very light that i'm concerned about. i do think it could be hormones but just thought 4 months later it would be alot better, progress seems VERY slow

Think i know the dog, think i know you. Have always heard good things about kernelcoat but haven't needed to use it, also heard good reports about yumega , hope i've spelt that right. As i said i haven't needed to use them but heard good reports about both.
