i am first time breeder and wanted to know if it normal that when the dogs unlock is it normal that fluid comes out also? HELP
- By tracey32uk [gb] Date 01.02.09 18:00 UTC
Bless your heart, of course its normal, its just the semen leaking out.
If you are a first time breeder, and you have obvoiusly mated your bitch, i would if i were you read everything you can get your hands on from conception to birth (kind of wish you'd researched before deciding to mate really!!)
Speak to as many breeders as possible to pick their brains, also, keep a log of mating times, so you know when to expect the patter of tiny paws...and a really good thing to do is take your bitches temperature twice a day for a week, so you an average of her normal temperature, as it will make it easier to gage a real drop prior to whelping!
Good luck!
Tracey.

hi there i researhed  on a lot of things but never come across anything about the fluid after.. my bitch and her stud locked twice and we worked it out for her to be due april we are taking her to the vet tomorrow for a ckeck over

For her to be due in April, she must have been mated very recently, I would save my money, unless there is something you are worried about, the vet won't be able to tell if she is in whelp yet :-)

My bitch was mated 3 weeks ago this Sunday when she and the stud parted there was no fluid from her so does this mean the stud did 'ant ejaculate which of cause will mean no puppies as you say law of gravity so I was expecting something I think this is the first time I have not seen any fluid from the bitch after mating but it could be normal as I have not bred that often and I am normally at the other end were the teeth are So always a bit distracted LOL?

There was a 10 min tie approx.

There are three stages in a canine reproduction from the stud dog's side

The dog will ejaculate the semen in three fractions. The first fraction is the presperm fraction, which is a small volume of clear fluid. The second fraction is a cloudy, sperm-rich fraction. During ejaculation of this second fraction, the dog will usually thrust vigorously. Prior to ejaculating the third fraction, which consists of clear prostatic fluid, the dog will usually dismount

Any fluid lost after a tie will be clear prostatic fluid containing no sperm. Whether or not you see any fluid has no influence on conception IMHO

the clear prostatic fluid is what helps the sperm travel up to where it needs to be .
