offcially my bitch has 6 days to go til her due date but been reading posts and speaking to other breeders who say she could start at any time from now.ive got everything ready and by that i mean im prepared for to call my mum and babysit the kids(incase anything should go wrong thats all ill be upset myself it would be too hard for the kids to understand),ive got everything on stand by just awaiting the puppies now.
cannot wait, feeling nervous anxious tired as im up all hours making sure shes still just sleeping lol and then keeping the house tidy.
seems like we've been waiting sooo long.
anyone eles think its quite true that pregnancy isnt always 63 days?i mean i know pups do come early but i wonder how commen it is..thats all.xx
I let her run around all morning long and i brought her in and she ate chopped chicken. I took her out again while i supervised and she keeps peeing so i picked her up and she had about a pea size amount of lime green mucus, and her tummy is extra soft. Today was also the first day her teats milked, and she has never whelped before.

>she had about a pea size amount of lime green mucus
Use a white tissue paper/kitchen roll and dab her vulva. If there
is green on it please
phone your vet for advice. Green mucus before the first pup is born is NOT generally a good sign and something
may be wrong.
Thats what i did initially, its a very transparent yellow/lime green mucus.
I think it was a false alarm, she has resumed to her usual self, no digging, but she does have milk in her teats now, they are swelling up. I called my vet and he said she discharges any more to collect it and bring her and it to him asap. But she has not had anymore, and shes been peeing up a storm!
hi indapendent1 i still wouldnt leave it even if she dont show anymore theres a chance things arnt right with it being that colour !!! when the plug comes away its mucusy and sometimes as blood in it but green is a bad sign ,let us know how things go plz x
It was very little icky yellow/light lime green, it wasnt a dark green, and it had no blood. It was just discharge, aka mucus plug
:) glad to hear all is ok ,not be long now :) x

Alrite sorry to keep you all waiting, any second now these pups are due, i have been at the vets trying to decide if i want to set up a csection appt. or give her a o-shot! Im all about natural so im hoping she has the pups by morning, they are still good, great heartbeats, and they have dropped real low. She has had no discharge whatsoever, not even clear gooey stuff. she has begun nesting, moving her whelping blankets around back and forth, and has started to poop a lot *i heard they try to empty their bowels*. I will keep you ladies posted, i just wanted to let you know my bitch is doing well! i just want those puppies out already the rings around my eyes cant get any darker!

A few days early is quite common especially if a bitch has a lot on board in my experience, your all prepared so just keep calm and she'll start when she's ready, nothing nicer than seeing new life into the world :-)

One of my bitches was 5 days early, she had 7 pups. Her daughter was 3 days early and had 9 pups. As you are all ready, I wouldn't worry. With both my girls, the biggest hint that the birth was a just a few days away was when their bellies dropped and the puppies were being carried low. Good luck, I am sure everything will be fine.

You will be fine, It really surprised me how calm I really was and how well my girl was. I think that I was trying to help too much to be honest, and my girl placed herself between me & the pups!! When I finally went to sleep at 3am after a long wait from the last pup (I was sure that there would be no more!!) I woke up to seven pups and my beautiful girl did everything herself. Goes to show that I am an interferring old bag!! I was so proud of her and so will you be. Dont forget, if you are stressed and panicky, that can rub off so just stay calm and let nature take its course. Fingers crossed for a happy, safe and healthy litter. xx

my bitch (her first and only litter so far) was 1 day late. i know i dont have much first hand experience but i might be able to help. my bitch lives in a kennel (i got some smacked wrists for this lol but i was sleeping in it with her) anyway i brought her in with me so i could cancel everything for the next day (just incase) then took her into the kennel and she started scratching and panting! within half an hour we had a puppy. some people say when its their first litter (unsure if it is or not?) they are early and that labour can (and will i have seen this with my mums bitches) last 12plus hours. my advice is be prepared for ANYTHING lol i am so excited for you! when my first pup was born i was crying down the phone to my mum saying "its a puppy its actually a puppy" lol! good luck :)

Hi My large breed bitch went to the day. and produced 9 so anything is possible!
Have fun with the sleepless nights...Yawn Yawn!
Aileen

thank you!!
i read the post saying about the belly dropping and know that hers has dropped quite a lot.it almost looks like shes got a waist line back, shes not eaten her breakfast this morning so gave her some scrambled eggs and she ate those.i have to say im getting impatient now.lol.they will come when theyre good and ready i know but i want to see my babies.OH said something really stupid this morning he said why dont you make the most of the sleep now cos you know what your like, you'll not get any sleep when theyre born,in a way he's right but bloomin eck im not gonna sleep now anyway.lol.anyways ill get back to making my beds and come back when something has changed to let you know.x.x.x.

My girl had her first litter in the summer, she delivered exactly on day 63 and had 9 healthy babies, she's a cocker spaniel. So you could have a few more days yet and yes I would try and get some catch up sleep before they arrive, you're going to need it.
Good luck.

Yep, you will need as much sleep as you can, LOL I am running on empty just at the moment...it's no fun sleeping (HA HA) with nine yelling pups....an hour or two at a time is all I am getting, if I am lucky.
Get my head down about midnite, up 2ish, head down again 3ish up again 5 ish then it's nearly time to get up anyway LOL. Oh what fun !!!!
Good luck.
Aileen

oh yes i know all about that, trying to sleep u just settle and a pup starts to scream.hmm,i remember but the waiting game for me is killing me.i dont know how much longer i can take it.pml.
i think as soon as theyre born and ive done all records collars and weights ill sleep like a baby............well for about 2 hours anyway lol.lol.lol
how are your pups doing aileen??

With me even when a pup changed it's breathing pattern I was awake, strange isn't it how the slightest noise wakes you when you have pups.

i remember one pup lying on his back not moving he was ound asleep but i happened to look down and stare at him for a while id convinced myself he wasnt breathing so there i was in the middle of the night kneeling over him(crazy but i didnt wanna disturb him if he was sleeping lol)with my ear to his mouth listening for a sound and its the most sweetest sound im not kidding its beautiful listening to a pup sleeping.i know what you mean.i cannot wait now.i have a feeling shes gonna hang it out for as long as possible just to keep me in suspense.lol

I don't know if breed makes a difference but I've had several bitches go 56 days, healthy litters, and no problems. So it's definitely quite common in my toy breeds.

My girls started the early stages, pups are due on Friday. Good luck, think I'm going to be up in the early hours of tomorrow!

Oh exciting, I love to hear of new babies on the way :-)

nothing yet guys but we did wake up to a foot of snow, which has put me into panic stations!!! what if something goes wrong and i need to get to the vets, ive been talking to my neighbours and shes had her husband and the neigbours next door to them and the neighbours next door to them(we live on a long slip road where gritters dont go)all clear a path because of the puppies due.its really nice to know that we've all pulled together to help get me a clear path should i need it.its still falling heavy and its lovely but im praying for rain to clear it.kids think im being mean but theres nothing like deep snow to put a spanner in the works.
keep you posted.

You have very nice neighbours to do that :-) if they are born today/this evening you will have to theme their KC names on something to do with all this lovely show :-D

STOP IT,stop it right now, this panicing is doing you or mom to be any good.
I agree with forward planing but your getting yourself in a state before anything happens, its not healthy for you.
You know you can ring me anytime 24/7,you know the vets are local and will offer 24 hr service
save all your energy for mom to be and those babies.
Consider yourself told off by your auntie Carolyn lol.

LOL wow good catch!! haha yes im soo sorry it is 97.7!! Well as most of you can expect i havent slept much in the passed 3 days/nights. Tonight was another allnighter, but im sure ill have a whelping bitch by the end of the night!!!

I think Admin would prefer if you stuck to the one thread on this :-)

right ive been out today and come home to bella in her wheling box all happily snuggled up......alone.ive calmed down as ive realised what will be will be,and carlolyn i know your right;-)
ive got myself into a complete state over nothing really.ive taken what some might call a chill pill lol and put my mind on other things like stayin bloomin warm in the weather.ive taken some lovely photos of the kids playing in the snow so am gonna put my feet up and relax with lappy and chill with my girl in her bed next to me.
papillon...considering the situation then id probably have to do something along the snow theme.yes.its a nice idea.x

carolyn,i know the offer is there to call you and belive me your phone number is just under the vets number on my kennel gazette new calendar.lol.i can promise you you'll wish you never offered.
Hi, my bitch is due the same day too :-) Im all prepared as well. I bought a whelping box (cardboard) She is looking pretty sorry for herself at the moment. My friend is a vet, and she is on call this week!!! Good luck, lets see who has their puppies first eh!!!

ah bless her.yea lets see.xxxx
still waiting, she hasn't begun to strain, but its imminent, she is truly uncomfortable, vet on call, whelping kit and box are ready!
im soooo excited for you good look :) x
Im excited too, but i dont want to show it too much!! She is as cool as a cucumber while im silently flipping out. I just look at her and ask her with my eyes like WHEN baby girl???? I dont want to have to give her a shot, its not too healthy, but shes panting, nesting, restless, peeing a lot, not eating..and her temp went back up to 99, heard its ok for it to fluctuate
yes it is and when pups are ready to come mum temp goes back up :) sounds like shes ready ,just make sure u keep a very close eye on her now just incase shes pushing on nothing is happening but im sure you know this :) stay cool as she will pick up on .....again good luck ill keep checkin this thread x
Oh shes in eye distance, in fact she has been for about 50 or so hours, haha. Im watching her pretend to sleep, shes all cuddled up but staring blankly at me, atleast she isnt in pain, and she has had no contractins that i have noted *no big ones*.

> shes all cuddled up but staring blankly at me, atleast she isnt in pain,
With my girls, when I see that staring look - kinda glazed, it's the pain causing it.
yes i agree jean my girl does the same thing , the dogs is looking at you but dont seem to see you if you know what i mean !!!
your girl will be in pain as shes getting ready to have them ,just like we do :(
i meant too much pain, these last hours i know shes in constant pain, been there done that, but shes a yelper so i know once she yelps im in trouble!!

Yey, wo't be long, glad ya stuck with us.
Soooo exciting! x
