HI not been on here for a long while,we had to have our boxer put down a few months ago,and because we didnt want the same breed again we researched bassets, and recently bought a basset pup we have had her for 2 months now and love her to bits ,however a few days ago we noticed her limping and took her to the vets we also said we had noticed a bad smell coming of her,the vet said it could be her anal glands so he did the squeaze and said this could also cause her to be limping he gave her an injection and a 3 day course of antibiotics and sent us on our way ,the thing is shes realy stiff in the morning can hardly get going then come the afternoon shes as mad as an hatter running around ,jumping cant keep her still,we do cage her to rest her but the thing is would anal glands realy cause this much of a problem in a 4month old pup? and how long before the antibiotics start to work? many thanx mel....

Have you spoken to the breeder about your concerns? They would be the best people to advice. Personally I would look at two things first: how much exercise she gets (i.e. is it TOO much?), and what you feed her. Could be that she's growing too quickly due to the food, causing the growth plates to get inflamed -that happened to a pup of mine. I changed him to raw food but he wasn't allowed to go for walks until 9 months old, had to get him out and about in a pushchair to rest his legs. He ended up fine though. :)
I find it hard to believe the anal glands would be any problem at all in such a young dog.
