Topic Dog Boards / General / Furminator - use on sensitive skin?
- By luvhandles Date 26.01.09 09:57 UTC
I have just recieved my furminator this morning and in the instructions for use, it states not to use on sensitive skin. One of my boys has allergies - no broken skin, he gets very itchy behind his ears, on his face and has thinning fur on his head but his body looks fine. My question is, will it be ok to gently go over his body with the furminator? I don't want to aggrevate his problem............

Hi there, i think the issue with the furminator is with any raised scabs, warts etc. All it does is drag out dead hair so if your dog has sore skin it could irritate it but as long as you dont use it on broken/sore areas you should be fine.

They are fantastic things for short haired breeds.

well, I've just finished 'furminating' and :-O I filled a carrier bag with cavalier hair and more judging by the amount that went up my nose, in my eyes and all over my clothes! The thing is, I could have kept on going and going but feared that my boys would end up bald although it was evident that all that came out was undercoat because it was all the typicle lighter coloured fluff. They really didn't mind though, infact Alfie quite enjoyed it. Its bath time this weekend so I was thinking about giving them another quick going over then or do you think that's a bit too soon? The instructions state once or twice per week is enough. To anyone considering getting a Furminator but is yet undecided, I would say that they are worth every penny.

Glad you enjoyed it! They are a pet friendly shedding blade. They do wanders on coats that look ok but slightly dull and take out anything that would be left on your carpets otherwise. It usually energises the dog as the air gets to their skin. Good for dogs with skin problems in my opinion cause it allows circulation to the skin and keeps them cooler.

Enjoy! It works better before the bath rather than after......dont ask me why it just does!!!

Thanks for that, perhaps I will give them a quick wizz over before their bath then. Hope the pups are ok by the way!

Yep, they are thriving!

The furminator is getting very popular. When i groomed they didnt exist i used shedding blade but they are fantastic on labradors, pugs and all those breeds that require little coat maintenance. It just freshens them up.
