Has anyone used this, and have they had positive results from it please??
Safi my problematic TT has in the past had Campylibacter, had ab's for it and has just come off another 2 week course of ab's but she is still very loose. Whats new, I know ;o)
Anyway I've come across this product and want to know if it might do her some good. Most of what I've tried hasn't, or if it has, not for long.
She is now fed Hills I/D tinned and complete. She was on Hill Z/D Ultra complete with some D/D tinned. One meal kibble the other meal tinned, not fed together. This was good for so long until beginning of year when she got runs again. Vet is aware of her intolerances/alleries and told me while her insides are like this anything she is fed will go straight through her. I've not had her back to vet since she finished her course of ab's, last tuesday but she is still loose. Not as bad, but bad enough.
I'm getting to my wits end with her. Anyone who's been on this forum for a while will know of my long standing problems with this girl.
I am always trying to build up her immune system but it doesn't seem to do any good.
Any help at all on this matter, as always would be very much appreciated.
many thanks
Anne

Hi Anne,

I haven't heard of the product and so simply googled it.  It does appear to be a useful additive however so many things which promise the perfect solution in reality don't work (at least not for anything like all dogs) and of course Safi's system being so compromised she may react adversely towards it.

I'm really sorry that things have flared up again and hope she returns to better health soon.

Hopefully someone will have first hand experience of this product and be better able to advise but I'd also run through the specific ingredients with your vet in case there is something in there which s/he feels likely to exacerbate her intolerances.

Gentle hugs to Safi and you,
Teri x

Hi Teri
Many thanks for your kind thoughts :o)
Although she doesn't deserve them. Or I don't for breeding her!!! ;o)
Anyway she's been like it since I weaned her so I should be used to it by now shouldn't I??
I may give it a go anyway as its not going to upset anything further.
I see these things and think 'OH maybe that will help', then I start wondering, after I've already forked out for the stuff.
I must have spent thousands trying to sort this dogs insides out!!!!
Thanks again
Anne

Might be a daft idea, but it's something I tried in the past with a dog that was always loose.  Chappie!  I know it's cheap and cheerful, but it worked for this particular dog.

Hi Jean.
Thanks for that. Its something I have tried to no avail I'm afraid.
I think this blessed dog is a one off!!
I want to ask the vet just for some advice as to where I go now with her, the dog that is, but consultation fees refrain me as I've spent a small fortune on her already. Even then I don't know if the vet will be able to shine any light on the problem as she already knows what Safi is like.
She isn't ill she just is loose ALL the time and doesn't put weight on. Wish I had what she has ;o) ;o) At least for a time anyway LOL.

OK Just an update re Safidog.
took her to the vet yesterday and as we both think that its colitis, she is on salazopyrin for 7 days and is much improved after only 1 dose!! She's a much happeir girlie!! Vet says the Colaid certainly won't do her any harm, but I will try it on her later on.
We are keeping her on the Hills z/d complete for a min. of 4 weeks on 4 small meals a day, to see if its food related or stress/anxiety related. I have just come across on the net, some new calming tablets that are non prescription called Zylkene which the vet also mentioned might be worth trying her on after this trial period if it is stress related. So hopefully we might be seeing and to the tunnel :o)
Thanks for your care and thoughts and I'll keep you informed how we go on.
Take care
Anne

Well. Just a quick update on her Ladyship.
It def. looks like it is colitis she sufferes from, as things are now very much improved. All fingers and toes crossed!! ;o)
Shes off the Salazopyrin now and I have been giving her the Zylkene for 7 days, one a day, and she is still on the Hills z/d ultra, but with a bit of meat or fish in it, just to mash the Zylkene into.
She does seem to be on the up. her motions are firmer but I think thats due to the calming effect of the Zylkene rather than the z/d ultra as she was still loose on that prior to Zylkene. So the diarrear would seem to be stress/anxiety related rather than diet.
I am going to start to give the Zylkene on alternate days now, with Serene-UM on the other days and see how she goes on that. Shes also off 4 small meals now and is onto 2 larger meals with a charcoal bonio at bedtime ;o)
I am happy to say she is much improved but I daren't say more than that as everytime I say something positive it goes against me!!
I'll keep her on the z/d ultra for another week and then I shall probably start to mix in something like Wafcol salmon & potato, or some other kibble thats fishy rather than meaty.
I am stocked up with allsorts of kibbles so I have plenty to choose from!!!
Thanks for all your help and advice.

Glad you seem to be getting there.  My BC boy had squits for the first 8 months of his life, and I thought we would never get it sorted so I know how it is.  Fingers crossed for you, that it continues to improve.  Jean

Hi,
My golden now 7 months has had campylobacter since 7 weeks old.  Have not used Colaid, but Dorwest Tree Barks Powder does help.
Good luck I know how you are feeling.
Chrissie.

Thanks for those kind thoughts.
Biffydog, has your Goldie had any antibiotics then for the campylobacter? I would have thought they would have cleared it up by now if antibiotics have been used :o0 Seems to have been around for a long time! Are you sure ITS not colitis or something else? Is he/she very anxious about things, that could be causing a 'nervous tummy'??
Safi was on Baytril antibiotic. One a day for 2 weeks. that cleared it up but we were told that once she's had it she will always be a carrier of it,  also to be meticulously hygenic, washing hands etc even after just touching her as it is very, very contagious and humans can get it. None of us got it by the way.
I have tried the Dorwest Tree Bark powder but unfortunately she reacts badly to so many things and that was one of them. Makes her lips swell up :o(
As yet i haven't tried the Coliad either as I haven't needed to, but I have it in just in case I need it.
she's doing well on the Zylkene and Serene-UM at the mo. so thats good. Obviously its settlinmg her anxiety down but not sedating her a she is still bouncy and happy.
thanks again for all your kind thoughts

He has had Erythromycin and Noroclav, but it doesn't seem to be clearing.  We also feel it is colitis and have spoken with Vet today, he is now thinking the same.  Suggested changing his diet from Burns to Chappie, but I do not want to make things worst.  He is not the nervous type (our other Goldie is),  and luckily like you we have not contracted it (actually our doctor did samples), nor has the other  dogs had it (perhaps he is the carrier?).
Thanks for reply and hope things continue to go well for you.
Chrissie.

Thanks Biffydog.
I hope some of things I have said that Safi is on my be of some help to you ie the Hills z/d Ultra or even the Zylkene, which don't have to be bought throught the vet and, medicanimal online have a discount on at the moment. Might be worth a look.
Kind thoughts
Anne
