Hi,
I was looking for advice re my 6 yr old Basset, Brody.
He has always been a 'barky' dog - if there is a knock at the door, or if he hears something outside he's more than happy to alert us to the 'intruder'. However, a couple of years ago, he started barking and grumbling under his breath whenever we walked or called out to someone up the stairs (only up, never down). He seems particularly agitated when someone actually stays still on the stairs (especially if they are speaking to someone downstairs (the stairs look out onto the living room), and the only way he quietens down is when we are off the stairs.
We have tried soothing him, telling him off and ignoring him and non of these have worked.
I would really appreciate some advice if anyone has any ideas.
Thanks,
Sam

My dog has been doing almost exactly the same for a couple of months now.
The only thing that helps is to attach a house lead, and then when anyone jumps up to run upstairs, i grab the lead and if he tries to run after them barking, i give a little tug on the lead and say aaah. This seems to be working, but only when the lead is attached.
I am hoping in time it will stop altogether.
Thanks for the suggestion of the house lead. He doesn't actually move off his bed when he's doing the barking (he's obviously too comfortable!!!). He just lifts his head up or sits up. However, I do think it is a good idea and will give it a try.
Thanks again,
Sam
