As i will be fetching my young bitch (who has been in season)  back from my daughters where she,s been staying
I want to give her a good bath in a strong smelling shampoo to take away any lingering smells so my dog wont be too keen.I know that she should be well clear, but as to young yet to mate i dont know her optimen time yet until she,s had a few good seasonsI know my dog will be very interested as he is used at stud .So likes to give all the girls a good checking over JUST IN CASE
So a good strong smelling shampoo wont do no harm as long as it,s not of the type that would harm her skin or coat
ANY IDEAS?

You won't need stong smelling shampoo for a dog. Your normal shampoo is honestly fine.   If she is still near then shampoo won't mask it , the odour comes from the inside out.

If you are in the slightest doubt that you feel the need to mask then I would personally leave her another week.

Sorry I haven't directly answered your question :-)

I used tea tree shampoo but my dog hates the smell of tea tree now.

I have heard before on a documentry i think that dogs can tell just by scent if salt has been added to food along with every other ingredient in there thier noses are that good. Also they can smell a bitch in season from many miles away so i dont think covering up the smell is possible if it is still there. You might be able to wash her fur so any thing still hanging about is washed off but any normal dog shampoo would work just the same the way i see it.
