Topic Dog Boards / Health / Cushings in a beagle

Hello everyone, I'm new here and after a bit of advice if I may.  I have a 7yr old bealge who I'm suspecting may have cushings, we have been throught £230 of blood tests for everything else from the vet so far, but I kind of think this is what it could be due to symptoms.  A little cross with the vet who did these others first as the cushing was expensive, but I will have to demand its done now I think.

Anyway she is greedy (well she is a beagle! lol) plump, not very active even off the lead in a field, had a recurring skin sore problem on her head where the hair falls out and it weaps, a slow heart beat and now is drinking more and going for a wee in the kitchen over night where normally she would wait till morning.  So do any of you have experience of this complaint and does this sound like it to you maybe?

And lastly I hate to talk about it but the cost.  Ive been led to believe it will cost me in the region of £90 to £120 per month for the medication, no idea how I will find that so hoping anyone can suggest some way to obtain the meds without the vet!

Sorry to be asking so much on a first post, but glad to have found a dog forum like this on the web!

Many thanks

My mum's dog is a mini poodle and showed all symptoms of cushings, with every test showing he does not have cushings.  I think that the vet mum used for most of the dogs life was pretty steroid-happy.  Incidentally the symptoms started 2 years ago and have abated of their own accord.  There has been no need for treatment and if it was cushings then I am sure he would have had far more serious problems or been dead by now.

is this vets prices?, have a look on vet-medic, vet pharmacy etc, you will still need a prescription from the vets and they charge for this (there was a recent thread costs varied from £2.50 to about £15) but the vet can write it for meds with 5-6 repeats, you send this off, pay for first month and they will send meds, then phone for each repeat. Did this for last GSD for heart meds and it was about half the cost. I did get initial meds from vet while dose was being settled but not after.

Thank you both for the replies.  I will have a look round the net for the places you mention for the drugs, best to be clued up before the appointment I guess.
