Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Golden Retriever Eye Problem

My sister has a healthy 5 yo Retriever. Whilst out walking one day my sister noticed that his eye had "drooped".

She took him to the vets and a dye test showed no foreign bodies and was put down to a possible infection.

Antibiotics have done nothing and a further visit to another vet had confirmed his eye has a nerve problem. Apparently, it is very common in Retrievers and sometimes it improves othertimes it does not.

The symptoms are it looks as though his 3rd eyelid has covered the eye. Apparently, there is nothing further that they can do.

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, what was done for their dog?

Any assistance would be appreciated.

sounds a bit like what in hounds, we call a cherry eye, a fairly simple op can rectify it, but if its not causing any discomfort to the dog, I would say why bother?
