i have a little girl who is very heavily pregnant, she is on day 64 had her at vets yesterday her temp 100.2 she was 1 1/2 cm dilated, took her back this morning Day64 day she is still the same dilated and temp still 100.1, no signs of nesting panting shaking etc, was mentioned that if no signs of labour for friday morning she would have ac section friday afternoon, my questions is this how long can she possibly go without putting her in any harms way, she is dilating so does this mean things are moving along? just she is showing no symptoms on the outside shaking digging, panting still eating small amounts , vet say she has to be at least 2cm for pups to get through is this right. any help would be gratefully recieved my partner is out walking her now to see if that helps.. many thanx

My girl has just had C section due to inertia secondary to over -extended uterus. Her temp droped on a Saturday , not much to suggest labour throughout Sunday then early hours Monday morning we had a rush of fluid but 2hrs later still no pup. Elective section done on Monday am - all eleven pups survived but if we had left it longer the first pup would certainly have died, it was only just alive at the time of the section.
After the section my girl developed post partum endometritis (like a pyo) and nearly died, the prolonged period of time her cervix was open was probably a major contributing factor to this complication. IMHO if your girl is dilating but showing no signs of delivery by tomorrow I would push for a section on Thurday rather than wiat until late Friday afternoon. JMHO

i had pretty much same as k, total inertia tho, passed a bag of water with no contractions, then hour later had dark green/black fluid passed, vet advised me to wait 15 mins and if still no pushing/pup straight to vet. by the time i got to vets she was jumping around like a loony with absolutly no signs of labour, did emergancy c section, and was lucky to have 5 pups and mum alive. mum had massive bleed due to womb not contracting, we nearly lost her but thankfully after being spayed and blood tranfusion she pulled through ok. so i agree with k dont wait if you think something is wrong, i went with my gut and im glad i did. i should also add tho that my girl was only on day 58. my out of hour vet bill was impressive as you can imagine lol :)
took her to vets this morning temp 101.he says looks like inertia, he could have given her calcium/oxitosin jag but i opted for a c section which will go ahead at 1/2 eleven, hopefully everything will be okay. many thanks sandy

Good luck with the C sec.Must be underway by now!

let us know how she gets on

puppies home hand feeding till mum is home about 5.30 ish, vet says 2 were wet puppies these 2 are a tad smaller than the rest can anyone shed some information on wet puppies. mnay thanks x
I think the vet means they a bit wet in the lungs, in human babies this is caused quite often in prematurity or taking a breath too early. How many babies did you get and how they all doing xx
are you sure he didnt mean water puppies?
i have 4 girls and 2 little boys mum is doing great just had her sausages , yes he said wet and not water, puppies all doing great , partner and i on floor tonight, regards sandy

just back from vets all are doing well , he gave the mum oxytosin to help with the milk and to get the uterus down a bit, , i like to say again thanks for all the help and advice you have given me..
can ia sk another question, the pups seem to have problemd with there little poo,s im, feeding lactol at the moment and mum is also feeding them .its just a few are quite small, is there anything i can give to help them out a little. sandy
I would make sure that the pups are put on the mum as often as possible to feed rather than supplementary feeding them, this will help with mums milk production, put the pups on the hind teats as they are usually more productive

There certainly shouldn't be a need to supplement with 6 pups (assumign thsi is not a tiny breed), getting as much off Mum is what is needed. Milk can be a bit slow to coem in after a C section, and they need to be on ehr as much as possible.
