Is there a good dog show in the vicinity that you could go to, make a day of it? ;-)
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 16:26 UTC
not a clue but if there was that would be my choice :)
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 16:27 UTC
I can have a look for you if you like, when is the big day ??
- By gembo [gb] Date 06.01.09 16:28 UTC
When is it? Give us some ideas on what you like to do & who'll be celebrating with you.  Some quick ideas:

1. Day spa could work with girls or your OH
2. Find a nice long pub walk, maybe take a pic-nic, dogs, bottle of champers
3. I've heard they do cocktail mixing in Edinburgh (I'm going on a Hen Night in June)
4. What about the touristy stuff in Edinburgh? The castle maybe?
- By Crespin Date 06.01.09 16:29 UTC
I usually go out for a night on the town, clubbing, dinner, etc.  for my birthday.  Eat lots a dinner, and then go clubbing to work it off lol.   And I hear, that you have great clubs overseas, not like here!  Most in my area are pretty lame lol.

Or if you want to see a show, (joys of online searching) go to this website.  http://www.dundeerep.co.uk/w_shows.htm

They have a list of shows on at the theatre, unless by theatre you mean movies, instead of shows........
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 16:50 UTC
sunday the 25th would be ok (though as its group night out on the 24th i might be feeling delicate). any date around the end of jan start of feb is ok really, i'm working my actual birthday (21st) and then going out on the 24th so i'm flexible :)
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 16:51 UTC
oh, castle might be an idea, i've not been since i was tiny.

this is just for bf and i, i'm off for drunken antics with everyone else another time.
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 16:52 UTC
Just had another thought - if you wanted to do something like go out for a meal, my OH & I went to a beautiful restaurant when we were in Dundee, I cant remember for the life of me what it was called, but it was above a pub, near an estuary and it was a few miles north of the centre of Dundee. The food was amazing and I would recommend it to anyone - just done a google search but none of the names have jumped out at me, sorry Im not very helpful!

ETA - I'll have a look in Dog World when I get home and see if there are any shows around that day...

Piperdam?
- By kenya [gb] Date 06.01.09 16:55 UTC
The Thai in Dock Street is highly recommended, weve been there a few times, doesnt the Caird Hall have nothing that weekend??
Or even a lovely walk, and lunch in Broughty Ferry, or Carnoustie, the Station Hotel does a fab lunch, then a walk on the beach.
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 16:56 UTC
lol i've checked out the rep already (its the nice theater in dundee- well found though my canadian chum!) and they have a show "sex and chocolate" that i really fancy but its not on by my birthday (and unfortunately finishes before pay day)

no great clubs in dundee i'm afraid (and overnights out because of tio) but we are going to the DCA (dundee contemporary arts) bar for many cocktails then the Underground (which is a bar/club) for even more cocktails :) when i go out with everyone. my friend Mike wants us to have a summer holiday theme (loud shirts and beachy stuff) which i am torn about- on the one hand its january and we'll freeze, on the other i have a lovely dress that i got for OH's graduation that deserves a night out, its a long halterneck dress, white with big flowers.

What about clay pigeon shooting out at Auchterhouse followed by dinner at the Pear Tree or Piperdam and then into the cinema at Lochee to see a film?
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 17:03 UTC
your a genius kenya!! the caird hall has either one night of queen (how i love queen!) or joseph and the amazing technicolour dream coat...

now to decide...

See I do eventually want to get out to Scotland, so I do look at some travel sites occassionally.  Now its down to getting the money, time, and oh yeah, passport and I am so there!!!!

Hope you have a wonderful Birthday Kim!!!!  Whatever you decide, will be great!  (yes that sex and chocolate did seem interesting, too bad it finishes before your pay day)
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 17:26 UTC

> too bad it finishes before your pay day

and that liams pay day is the same as mine lol.

thanks, should be good but 24!! oh my!

(come on, flights to britain are pretty cheap now!!)
- By ice_queen Date 06.01.09 17:59 UTC
For my birthday I just wanted a day with me and boyfriend so I asked for an ideal day including brekfast in bed, a nice light lunch cooked for me (had soup! :-D ) and a general day with no fuss, walking dogs and watching films :)

It was a lovely day we had and I enjoyed it.

But then I can't think of anything nicer then boyfriend pampering me and cuddling up with him to watch a film....

yeah ok, totally mexico :)
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 19:16 UTC
Right, Mexico aside (would be lovely though eh?) I have checked DW and there is an open show on 24th Jan in Inverurie but that looks a bit far from you, and I think you already have plans for 24th. There is a gundog show in Carnoustie on Feb 7th or another open show on Jan 31st in Ingliston, but apart from that, not much in the way of shows I'm afraid! :-)
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 19:17 UTC
It wasn't Piperdam Christine - although that looks lovely! It was a small pub right at the end of a street, and the restaurant was above. I think it might have been in Broughty Ferry.
- By AliceC Date 06.01.09 19:20 UTC
Oooh that looks fab HG - I wish we could !!

That confused me as Broughty Ferry is east of Dundee, not North LOL!

But I have a feeling I know what restaurant it could be but I don't know the name of it!
- By Astarte Date 06.01.09 19:36 UTC
aw, ta. will try and get time off...
- By ali-t [gb] Date 06.01.09 20:12 UTC
The ship inn?

This is bizarre that people the length and breadth of the country (and world!) are discussing my local haunts.  Weird.  I am going to see sex and  at the rep on saturday, it looks great.
- By LindyLou [gb] Date 06.01.09 21:28 UTC
Cheekychow, you beat me to it ;-) I was about to say the Ship Inn :-) I've had some lovely meals there (used to live in the Ferry :-) ) Used to know the owner many years ago.
- By Granitecitygirl [gb] Date 06.01.09 21:52 UTC
OMG! I'm in the village of Blackburn, a few miles East of Inverurie!!!!  Well that's me sorted that day :-)

I love the theatre too Astarte - Queen for the win!  I'm sure you will both have a lovely day regardless of what you decide :-)
- By AliceC Date 07.01.09 13:38 UTC
YES it was - the Ship Inn! Brilliant - I'm glad I know the name now as if I am ever in Dundee again I will definitely be going there, the food and staff were fab.

Christine, sorry for the confusion, my geography has always been pants! lol. Sorry for hijacking the thread Astarte!
- By ali-t [gb] Date 07.01.09 13:49 UTC
they do an amazing steak pie and you often see the life boats doing rescues when sitting upstairs at the big window.  It is well worth a visit, taking the dogs to the beach and then heading to the ship for a feed. yum!
- By AliceC Date 07.01.09 13:51 UTC
We didn't sit near the big window as the place was packed - the golf tournament was on at the time we went so it was full of golfers :-) I had the most beautiful sausage pasta and my OH had a steak which just melted in your mouth! Have to say I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Dundee and would love to go back sometime.
- By Paula20380 [gb] Date 07.01.09 14:35 UTC
Sorry Kim no suggestions but how far are you off Fife?!! I was there over the weekend working.
- By Astarte Date 08.01.09 14:30 UTC
right next door to fife :) i grew up in tayport which is on the fife side of the Tay and other half is a proper fifer from Kirkcaldy :)

- By Paula20380 [gb] Date 08.01.09 23:06 UTC
