Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Ringcraft-North East/ County Durham area?
- By dottysmum [gb] Date 05.01.09 13:09 UTC
I have recently moved up to Durham and have a 16wk old Cocker Spaniel that I would like to show, can anyone recommend a good ringcraft? I am also looking for a good groomer so again, if anyone can recommend one that would be great.
Many Thanks

There are lots in the area, depends where you are which will be the nearest.  On Tuesdays there is one just outside Washington at the "Pet Care Co.", starts 7.30pm, on Wednesdays there is one at Newbottle, again starts 7.30, and on Thursdays there is one at NEttlesworth, think it starts at 8.  These last 2 are small and friendly, in Community Centre/Chruch Hall type places, the first mentioned is in the arena at a big Boarding/Grooming place, so a lot more like a show atmosphere.  There is also a specific Gundon one at Shincliffe, and another at Aycliffe.  Let me know which yo are interested in and I can give details.

As for the groomer question, if you are wanting to show it is more a question of finding someone who can prepare a Cocker pup for the ring, most groomers are more familiar with a pet trim.  IF you let me know where you are I will see if I can recomend someone.

Hi Gwen, thanks for your reply. I am in South Hetton so the Newbottle ringcraft would be ideal for me. If you know of anyone in my area who could help with the grooming then that would be great. I am prepared to travel to find someone to help with her coat. At the moment the only option I have is taking her to the same place my mum (her breeder)takes her cockers which would be a 400 mile round trip!

Hi again,  OK, so Newbottle ringcraft is on Wednesdays at 7.30.  You just join up as you go in and pay.  It is in the Community Centre, which is on the main road inot Newbottle form the big roundabout at Houghton Cut (A690).  As you leave Houghton and enter Newbottle there is a Fish and Chip shop on the end of a terrace of houses, and a little further up the hill the Centre is also on your left - it looks like it was an old school.  Plenty of car parking.  Will check out about Cocker groomers, and get back to you.
