Hi All, We have only just started showing (pup only 7 1/2 months) and already have had a few ups :) and a few downs :(
Charlie had been doing well at a few open shows but got an ear infection just before his first champ show, (didn't know till after) so didn't enjoy it at all and wasn't placed.
Then at his next champ show ( LKA ) still wasn't 100% re ears but also had a hugh cut on his face through playing rough with our other dog and he came away with VHC which we were very pleased with! :) but still not qualified for Crufts :(
Our last chance for Crufts was yesterday, a local open show. We know how hard it is to get all the way through an open show to end up qualifying, so didn't rate our chances very good.
Charlie was a little star and showed his socks off,
We won the 1 class we had entered, Got best of breed, Best puppy in breed, utility Group 4th, utility group puppy 1st...... we couldn't believe it! we began to think......maybe!!!
We came away with Reserve Best puppy in show!!!!! :) very happy, but no Crufts.
Maybe 2010 will be the year for that, but 2009 has started FANTASTIC!

Don't worry, enjoy your success. LKA & Crufts are held at the same venue but are different. Crufts, the entry fee is more, the car park is more, it is more crowded and you are restricted when you come and go but otherwise they are the same judges, the same exhibits and the same awards as any other championship dog show. Personally it is my least favourite show I much prefer the outside shows but it it is inside then give me LKA any time.

Thanks, we will keep enjoying it!
To be honest, we didn't really have a clue about the crufts qualifying thing and were not that bothered when he didn't make it a LKA as we have only just started showing and he isn't even 8 months old yet, but his breeder was willing him to do well as its her first litter after a long time in showing. His litter sister that the breeder kept has qualified so he would have been the icing on the cake for her! :)
We wanted it for her more than ourselves! :)
Every placing is fantastic to us, maybe when we have been showing for a while we will be chasing the Crufts goal more, but for now we will just take it one show at a time!! :)

Hi Paula. 1st of all. Well done to you both!!!
Was it the Great dane pup that won best puppy in show? He was massive and only 11 months old!! Embarrased his owner too by doing a big dollop when he first entered the group ring!!! lol

Yes it was the Great Dane, he was lovely. And by a strange coincidence Charlie and him had a little play in the car park when we arrived at the show first thing, we don't know the people or the dog but they seemed to get on great and when people applauded for best pup in show they got all excited and jumped up on handlers and wanted to play again!! LOL
