I purchased a choc lab dog who is now coming 7 months old. I noticed he was limping on one of his front legs. Both parents were fully health screened and had good hips/elbow results, so my vet xrayed him to check his elbows. they were fine - but she found deformed cartilage - I origianally purchased this dog to be used as a stud dog for myself, but the vet informs me not to use him as a stud dog because of this problem. The breeder has been great about this and have had lots of advice from her but has anyone else experienced such a problem with their dog. Is castrating him the only solution as I have two other bitches? Help!!

Is the Vet an Orthopaedic specialist, if not I would want the opinion of one and to know if the problem was of a hereditary nature.

Hi,
Thanks for your reply. Not sure if the vet is, or isn't - but I will find out. she did however think it was hereditary but the breeder has'nt had this problem with any of the other puppies in the same litter or previous litters.
