Topic Dog Boards / General / Advice please! best car ramp?

I have a Range Rover and a bernese mountain dog, I wondered if anyone can advise me on the best type of car ramp, i've searched the net and found folding, telescopic and rolling up models.

We have this Saunders folding ramp.  Suits our needs but our car isn't as high as a Range Rover so I guess you'd need to check the length of a ramp to ensure it's not going to be too steep when put in place.

NOT this one from Pets at Home:  http://www.petsathome.com/find/product-is-17843

It says on the packaging that it is non-slip, but with 15 seconds of rain on it (ie the time from unfolding it and putting it in situ to getting the dog out of the porch), it became absolutely lethal.

not sure if it will fit a landrover but I got a foldup hinged one and felt well and truly cheated.

It is basically a hinged crate with spongy mesh fabric on top to stop it being slippy - and it cost about £80.  I spent ages teaching my dog to walk up and down it bribing her with treats but in the end found it too much of a hassle to use it so lifted the seats in the back of the car and she can now just step into the back of the car.

In the end it was consigned to the shed and I used it as an additional step for my dog when she had her patella op so it was easy for her to get into the back garden.

The only advice I can give you is to take consideration of the amount of space it will take up in your car when you are travelling as mine was quite chunky.

I also have a Berner and i have a ramp which i don't use now he is old enough to jump into the car. I have a telescopic one, to be honest its a pain to unlock it and pull it out, its like a loft ladder and a real pain. If i were to get another one i would go for the folding ones, feel they would be so much easier. I personally wouldn't go for a wooden one, in time they will rot. The plastic one i have is very good once pulled out and clicked together. Very sturdy for a Berner.
PM me with details as right now i can't place which brand i have and where i got it from. Cost me about £70 from what i recall.

Again as above it takes up a lot of room due to being bulky.

We have one of those as well. Got it brand new on eBay for half the normal price a few months back. The seller had quite a few at half price on buy-it-nows so might be worth a look. No problems with it at all.

LOL, the only problem I've had with mine is when I pulled the folded ramp out of the boot & dropped it on my dads foot  - he was not amused!!
