Hi

My friend has a new large breed pup and has noticed a small red lump almost like a little lip poking out of the pups anus it is not a prolapse because it cannot be pushed back in any suggestions ???

It can still be a prolapse even if you cannot reduce it or it could be an absess, a varicose vein or anything really.  I would have it checked by the vet.

He/she should be going for jabs and a Vet check anyway? I would ask then...very hard to suggest what it is if it 'aint in front of you...or behind you come to that! Hope it's ok and just a minor blip!

How old is the pup? If very young it's often something they grow out of and can be associated with weaning. One of ours was like that (one we bred and kept) and it had completely gone by the time she went for her second lot of jabs. Hopefully your friend's pup has nothing much to worry about.

Hi

The pup has been to the vets they think she has been scratched by one of her siblings and it has got infected she is now on a course on antibiotics, they say its not a prolapse because its not reducable and there is a small hard lump just inside the anus, and as long as she is not having problems passing stools then she will probably be ok.  So fingers crossed.

Prolapses don't always go in- my boys has one and he's 7yrs, had it all his life- looks like a red cherry :-( We tried the purse string at 7 weeks of age and it didn't work.

We could go thro a big op but the vet said even then its a 50/50 chance it would work and may end up with more problems with infection because it would be sowed or something to his colon :-( But he's happy and healthy. I did have to feed him fiber but now the food seems to work with him not to hard so he's good.
