hey
i have a couple of the walkydogs - have found them very useful, i use them for sibe + rottie,
both the boys wear padded comfy harnesses + have had no probs with either of them getting used to it - the sibe goes bananas on it - so much safer than trying to bike with them on leads
enjoy :)

Never used a walkydog, but I've used side and front springers for the Malamutes and I love them. I haven't come off...... YET!!! ;-)

Hi Carolann,

Ive used the Springer and really liked it. I dont know about anyone else but I ditched the white rope and plastic toggle attatchment that came with it and use my own quick release  dampner line (from Culpeppers) I found this to be my only gripe with the springer.

Last year I bought the Antenna and this I really rate!!

I guess it's going to depend on how your dogs run.. the springer is good as you can go front and side. (I love the antenna but it is front only)
For me I would only run Sibes at the front never the side.(as do most in the breed)
But other breeds do well at slower paces trotting at the side :)

HTH??
Let us know how you get on!

when i have used springers i have always got rid of the cheap plastic hook ups, i have found them not strong enough and always replaced them with metal clips.

Hi Carolann

How are you getting on with your walkydog? I've just discovered these, along with the Springer and am interested.  I am really keen to start cycling with my ridgeback but was a bit concerned as to the safety side of it - how have you got on?  My ridgeback does pull sometimes when he sees other dogs and i have vision of going flying!!  I would be very interested to hear your experiences if you have a spare second.

cheers

i love the walkydog, we are out on the bike everyday rain or shine, my collies are getting fitter by the day with it,
the rottie he loves it but i have yet to get him up to a gallop i am going to find a hill and go down it to see if i can break his trot into a gallop LOL
as i am peddling away like mad and the sweat is pouring off me and he is still trotting along ,smiling and tounge hanging out if he sees another dog he
is told leave it and i start going faster with the pick up of speed he has not got time to think about going to say hello
the longest dog to take train has been the akita pup, but he is only 9 months old and we have only been doing about 10 mins on the bike,
because you don't go at walking pace you go at trotting pace so he is getting more fast exercise, at the beginning he sets off like a steam train and
then realises that i am keeping up with him and not being dragged along behind anymore, after about 4 mins of belting along he settles into a steady
rythm, but being a puppy, other dogs, cats, squirrels (i am sure these lie in wait just till we are passing)he would want to take off after them the first time he did
the leave it did not work, so i just stopped and grabbed the leader and really told him off, we went further down the road another squirrle and
the leave it worked he was interested and bounced up and down but i kept going and he came with me.
i run all the dogs in harness and the akita in harness and a head collar now he is getting stronger , with the walkydog do not attach it to the underneath of your seat as
someone i spoke to did and when the dog pulled her seat went around and she fell off, atach the walkydog to the shaft where the seat goes in, the walkydog has two attachments on it, one which can be left on to make a longer line or taken off to attach your dog for closer work, also has where you attach to the pole you can lower the attachments so a small do can run alongside withyou as well, my spitz has done very well on the bike, the great thing about the walkydog is that the pole unscrews from the part that is screwed onto your bike so you can take it off and go to the shops or be able to walk your dog with it if need be when out and about,
many people see me in the mornings on the bike with different dogs flying around, and the other day a gentleman said to me getting warmer see you have a bandana on now, as when i started i had my wooly hats and gloves on,
but i would not be without my walkydog now i love it the dogs love it

Hi carolann

Thanks so much for your response - it sounds great.

Definitely going to try it.  I think very early in the morning and on a soft landing tho first time!

Thanks again.
