Hi Guys
Where looking for a cheaper car at the min, and wana pick your brains.
We need something we can get kids in the back but also two fully grown newfoundlands in the boot? any ideas? We havent started looking yet but hopefully when the garages re open after xmas we will be able to go get one. As I say where looking for something cheap and cheerful and more practical than looking nice lol
any ideas would be greatful

Hi
What about a Picasso, I had one of the first ones and easily managed to fit two GSDs in the back, not sure about newfies, but it may be worth checking out. Dont be put off by looking at them from the outside thought, as the boots are very deep and far more spacious than they look. They are very economical on fuel and can be picked up really cheaply. Also tax and insurance are low. Good luck with your search.

Doblo.
Group 3 insurance, you can get a 1.2 unleaded or 1.3 & 1.9 diesel models. Not the prettiest car but really practical.
I'd say with two fully grown adults you'd be looking at a transit or something like
a crew bus/transporter etc as I don't know any 'cheaper' car that you could fit two adult newfs and kids etc.
The only thing other than that is a Range Rover but they aren't cheap to run nor repair. Probably in the high road tax band too.

I've got a Fiat Ulysse, one of the cheaper but roomier people carriers. I leave the rear two seats out and can easily fit 4 large dogs in and have had 3 borzois, borzoi cross and 2 collies in it (but that was a squash!). It would accommodate two adult newfs just fine and leave lots of legroom for 5 people. It's the same design as the peugeot 806 and the citroen synergie. Not sure what you mean by cheap by you can get an older diesel one of these for £500 to £3000.

Do you think it's big enough Christine with the back seats up? A friend has one and we can only fit one borzoi standing sideways in the boot and one of the seats.

I think your best bet would be to ask Jules as she has a Doblo! I could easily fit 3 Munsters in the back of mine with the seats up. And have had 2 Munsters, a Lab & a Hovawat in the back.

vauxhall astra estate? not sure on the price of them though, think they are a little more expensive than a citroen picasso, so try one of those, we loved ours but had a lot of problems with it the clutch going after having it only a few months from brand new! but it is spacious, the astra is one of our faves, or what about a meriva vauxhall, we fit 2 GSDs in it easy and have 5 of us in quite spaciously, but it isnt as big if i recall as the picasso... not sure though, doesnt feel it anyway
I doubt very much that you'd get 2 fully grown Newfs with much room in the boot,
A friend did have an Astra estate which she used to transport her 2 newfs in but they had the
whole of the rear with the seats down.
I have a Astra estate and if you want the newfs to have some space I don't honestly think it
would be big enough. It would be fine if you only had 1 newf in the back.

Really? Mind you i suppose GSDS arent quite as big, however they have always been big enough for our GSDs and never been squashed or anything, perfect spacing for them, was just an estimation, hard to guess when you dont own the breed
GSD's not nearly as big as the newfs ;)
I can get 4 Boxers in the rear part of my Astra estate..
You'd get two Newfs in but they'd have to be sitting up
or one may be able to lie down...but it would be a squash and not very comfortable
for the dogs if you have a long journey etc.

I know that silly!! But i thought with GSD being so spacious, that a newf would fit lol! But obv i dont understand size of the car, was a long time since we had an astra, so its a little hazy anyway but dad is looking to get another as its the only car he truly loved and enjoyed driving with lots of space, they are lovely cars though
Brill thanks guys for your help, we went yesterday and tried loads, some seemed big buy looking but once I got maggie in the back there aint alot of space for another and considering she is only 7mths some would be no good. I looked at a kia sedona and when the back to seats where out there was stacks of room. Just going to wait a few weeks as the garages seemed to be really desperate to sell so going to wait a few more weeks and see what bargins pop up lol
I've got a sedona and have had 3 adult gordons in it all crated individually with 3 seats out. It's comfortable as well. Took me a while to get used to it as i had a volvo d5 before :) but It's good as a dog car with loads of room.
If you've any questions about it ask away.
jill

I think it's the size of the Newfies you are underestimating! ;-) They go anything from 60kg to 100kg!!! That's why they're a giant breed!

what about the seat almera, ford galaxy, vw sharan, theyd have the room for 2 newfs in the back, whilst stil allowing the kids in the row in front....

I've a Newfie and I have a picasso which is fine. I've taken the rear seats out as I need room for him and the fishing gear.
I thought about a change and looked at a lot of cars including landrover and a rangey but they don't have the room and they are high backs which means you would need a ramp. I looked at the big BMW's and they are a joke, no room and just plastic buckets. I did like the big Volvo estates, low with room but the running costs are high. Audi was the same but the sales guy and I had a good laugh over my old dog so in the end the picasso is what I have until my old boy goes then I might treat myself to something else.
The other thing is my dog lives a good life style. He romps in mud and has regular swims and is a mess 90% of the time so posh cars don't stand a chance :)
