Hi there, just wondered if anyone could offer any experiences or advice. My sisters Yorkie was hit by a car on Monday after slipping his collar. He has fractured his pelvis in 3 places and the vets have recommended an excision arthroplasty and crate rest. Unfortunately at the moment he is not urinating on his own although he is pooing. My sister is desperate to have him home for xmas, the vets have said if he can urinate he can go home. Just wondered if anyone had experienced this. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Our girl broke her pelvis mid November.
There is always a risk of their bladder being damaged.
She didn't pee for over 24 hours though so they did think she might have damaged hers but luckily our girl was fine.

Our website has pics of xrays pre and after the operation and also her progress.

It has now been nearly 6 weeks and she is getting better and better.
With our girl the biggest risk/problem was her size (50kg) as we obviously could not pick her up to take her out etc so the vet was worried this might slow her healing but it seems the opposite has happened and she has healed quicker than many do.
She is still growing so this has helped her too.

Hi there, soooo pleased to say Seb was allowed home xmas eve and decided to wee in a friends garden whilst with other dogs! Since then hes been making brilliant progress! Hes not happy with cage rest at all (being a 6 month pup). I looked after him overnight yesterday and he loves my two dogs. He has come off one lot of the painkillers to try and slow him down a bit as he is trying to motor around already.
It was so sad as he was found as a stray and she had only had him for 13 days so if she had got insurance he wouldnt have been covered anyway, but she is determined he will get any op necessary regardless of cost.  He may need an athroplasty in a few weeks, but at the mo its crate rest, so fingers crossed for a good recovery!

most accidents will cover accidents from the first day, eg RTAs and falls etc, as far as i can remember so he may have been covered if insured. the surgery wont be cheap im afraid so good on your sister for giving him a chance!

Never been unlucky enough to have this happen to any dog I've owned.  But just wanted to post how glad I was that things are looking more positive, and to wish Seb every good wish for his healing.  Jean
