Hello,
My dog is 11 months old and is about 3 weeks (from very first almost pinky signs) into her first season.  So far, although I was dreading, first bitch, it all has gone pretty well.
I'd like some advice as the bleeding really slowed down and now she seems to be bleeding a bit more and it is milky red and more of it than in the early or mid stage.  Is this ok as I had presumed it would get less and less? She is well in herself as far as I can judge.
Thank you.

Hi Lillyloo
Your bitch's first season sounds pretty normal. The 'bleeding really slowed down' bit would be when she was most likely to be fertile. After that you usually get a bit more bleeding for a few days before it finally stops. Sometimes first seasons can go on a bit longer than usual. If you haven't already got it, try reading "Book of the Bitch" by Kay White. It's in stock on Amazon for £6.97, and it's really useful.

Thank you again.

Just keep her away from any male dog until her bits look all closed up (they will never be as tiny as before her first season, but will be neat again) and all discharge has ceased, usually about 4 weeks from the start to be on the safe side.

Just a quick update - all seems to be ok now.  Book ordered on Amazon.

Thanks for the reassuring advice.
