We saw Noel on Friday who examined and manipulated Beardsley and thought that JPS would be a good idea but reiterated that the hips *may* not ever cause him problems. This was after seeing another vet on the Thursday who agreed Beardsley had a dysplastic hip but wanted to wait and see how he progressed.
After chatting through the implications of the op we decided to go ahead and he was succesfully operated upon on Friday and we brought him home yesterday afternoon. He's a bit sore (and all his delicate bits are exposed due to the shaving) and certainly not 100% bubbly but as he's not to go running about for the next 4 weeks whilst he mends that's helpful. He is up and about and active with plenty of wags. We can walk him as much as he needs but he's not to rush about/jump up. The main thing is that he's not in any pain and that he should have a better chance of good hips.
He goes back in 2 weeks to have the stitches out and and the first progress x-ray/MRI so we can see how the hips are progressing but will never know if any improvement is due to the op or just how they would have been anyway. But as long as he stays free of arthritic pain I'll be happy.
I'll keep you updated, thanks for all the support,
Andi
