I have been musing on the breeds i would like to have were i and my lifestyle totally different and i thought it would be interesting to hear your 'wouldn't it be lovely- BUT' breeds nad why you wouldn't have them.
for me a malamute- i think they are gorgeous, lovely characters but way way to active for my activity levels.
i'd also have most molossers going but frankly who has the space?

If I lived in a big house in the middle of the woods and people were nicer
I would have a Rottweiler,a couple of shepherds and perhaps a SBT........perhaps a border terrier and certainly a couple of retired Greyhounds..Best stop there.

The list is endless, as there are so many breeds I love, but dont have the room for them.
Doberman Pinscher: LOVE THEM. They are smart, they are playful, and wonderful personalities. I love going to my aunts kennel, and playing with the dobes. (Not the only reason I go there *grin*)
Standard Poodle: Love the look, love the smarts. Just a breed to admire, because that is just way to much grooming.
Irish Setter: Love them. They are so nice to look at. Love the coat, they seem very lovable with their people, but way to active. I mean min pins are active, but small. Setter, active, and I would have no furniture left standing.

hmmmm think i would stick with ridgebacks, would just have a few more if i lived in a big house in the middle of nowhere! always said i would take on a few heinz 57 rescues if time and space allowed eg winning the lottery!

my no.1 is the breed i have - Cockers but would like more than i have, also if i lived in a bigger house with huge gardens and loads of money then i would also love to have Newfoundlands, Border Terriers, Springers, Labrador Retrievers, St. Bernards - the list goes on. also - minature pigs and donkeys. one can only dream x
Love this thread! I would absolutely love to get a Neapolitan Mastiff- for some reason I keep running into them and each time I fall in love with them that little bit more. It's going to be a long time before I would even consider getting one, but maybe one day. I would also get my Weim girl a Weim brother (the only realistic option) and then maybe a Great Dane just to keep me completey busy! Now I just need to win the lottery... :-)

no change here...stick with my beardies
Me too, stay with my Goldens. They are addictive and i think once you have had one, you always have one. Though i must admit, i would like a Bernese Mountain dog and an Otterhound. hahaha, so the beginning of my mail isn't quite true really!
mel.x
If i had more time and space i would have gordon setters, ive loved the breed since i first saw some when i was 12 or 13. I think they are the most beautiful dogs in the world but i know i dont have time or space for one at the moment.

It would have to be salukis--but we'd need somewhere far from roads and other animals. Cats, enter at your peril!

Like the breed I have for its personality, the only problem is finding a new one with semi decent conformation! Needle in a haystack time.

I thought that was a wish list
in addition to what we have already...I want all the ones listed
and mine too :-)

yes, a wish list, not a change :)

If I were single (or had a different OH ) I would definately have spinone, they are the leonbergers of the gundog world to me
Barbara
(edited to say,OH doesnt read CD...dont go telling him now!!!)

I would actually add a few sheep rather than dogs but would then look for someone to teach me to train the dogs to do what they where originally bred for. At the moment I haven't the land or enough knowledge.

Fun topic! I would branch out into setters and springers I reckon, and also Tollers. Of course I'd need a much bigger house, garden, not have to go to work, have a kennel maid to help with all the brushing and bathing.... :-D
Perhaps I'll stick with the Cavs and the Yankee!

sammies........ loads of em if i had the room.

I'd simply have more of what I have to indulge myself taking my bloodlines in different directions.

Stick to the breed that I have and do the same as Brainless, ahhh if only I had the money!

thought this was a fun post??
as I said earlier I wouldn't 'change' a thing! or for those who dont understand I wouldnt
wish for anything else :) :)
honestly tsk...

Oooh I'd have more dobes...with maybe a min pin or two :-D

I would have a Dobermann, Boxer, golden retriever, Great dane, Newfoundland, cavalier king charles, and all of the gundogs love em, oh and some rescues.
Waiting for the lottery results to come through :-)

Where to start???
Newfoundland, Great Dane, Bullmastiff, St Bernard ;-) Rather different from poodles I guess lol! I'd have to get used to the drool I guess. But as a wee lassy I never dreamt of poodles, it was always the big breeds that I felt could look after me.

I'm happy with our Dogues, also like rest of the Molosser breeds but would like to add Frenchies and Pugs. Maybe I will too!

Why not? I think this is a shopping list thread (not a wish list lol! :p)

I had my wish granted 3 years ago, I had dreamed of owning a Bernese for about 15 years, but my wish has been turned around and I am now owned by a Bernese (haha)

Well maybe a Havanese or two and a Lassa or three mmmmm... and a shed full of very handsome men to run them in the show ring ZZZZzzzzzzz.........
Dream on

I would love Akita Inu, Shiba Inu, Korean Jindo and maybe a Basenj.
Of course first of all I would have more chows as I would love one of each colour and they would need to come with their own grooming parlour added on to the side of my house LOL :-D

On my wish list is a frenchie!!! I have enough on with what I have at the moment though.
On my unrealistic wish list is huskys...I absolutely love them but can't see me ever having one.

I,d have to have lots more GSDs and enough land to be able to train for working trials in fact enough land they never need wear a lead again.
Also a luxury and I do mean luxury block for any staying guests in need of a little love and attention if there owners needed a break or were unable to look after them in emergencys.
But I really would love a rott a great dane and a leonberger , but first and foremost my beloved Shepherds.

It is a fun post, but what I stated is what I want, or am I unable to express this?

As well as my Paps I would have, Pomeranians, Longcoat Chihuahua's,Poodles of any size I adore them but haven't the skill to manage the coat clipping,German Shepherds, so easy to train and make you feel safe when out at night, French Bulldog's because of their humour, well I could go on and on, I love so many breeds and find likeable traits in the breeds I wouldn't necasserily ever want to own, luckily (or not lol) I only won £6 on the Euromillions last Friday so having a huge house with grounds to walk all the extra dogs I would have is simply not going to happen lol.

If I had more time and money, having 7 dogs already, would love a Bloodhound, a Neo, and MWHD, but love my 3 breeds we have already!

I'd still want the breeds I now have plus Beardies & GSDs which I have had in the past-I like other breeds but not enough to want one LOL
i would have more long coat chihuahuas my own breed
i would wish for a few lovely smooth coats and tibetian spaniels pug japenese chins also the hubby would want great danes and bull mastiffs
my i cant ever imagine having anything other than my own breed i would need a bigger house with lots of land :) but i can dream

If I had loads of room I would have smooth collies as had one as a child and have loved them ever since. Bit rare these days.
Plus the smooth fox terrier if I had fencing that extended 6ft down as they forever dig, dont think my current garden would cope
And of course more dachshunds :)

Ooh great topic Astarte !!
I would never be without a Sammy now but my second love is Cocker Spaniels - I'd have a black, golden and a blue roan. I would also have an Old English Sheepdog and a Rough Collie!

I'd like to have a Vizsla, Large Munsterlander, Welsh Springer and more lovely flatties to add to the mad house :-)

I'd have a few Manchester Terriers and a Tibetan Terrier - if I could find a grey and white one with a not too profuse coat :-D Well it is a wish list LOL

Met some Papillons the other day, loved everything about them so they would be on my list plus a couple of rescue Greyhounds and would maybe have to throw in a Bernese and a Borzoi or two.
D'you know when I was a kid I was petrified of GSDs, mean seriously petrified - panic attacks, tears, the works. But since having a couple of little dogs (x breeds) myself I've come across loads of GSDs at training and now I just 'get' them, if you see what I mean. The way they have such an elegant gait, have such beautiful coats - they are just wonderful!!

this is a good thread astarte! well i think its more like what wouldnt i have if i had the money, time and space!
i would love a husky! maybe one day! thats my dream breed if i had the time for one!
more Shepherds ,Miniture daxis, and beautiful rough collies, and would have to have a large house away from busy roads, so I could have more cats.
By goldie
Date 21.12.08 22:10 UTC

Cant see me changing from Goldies. But i do rather like English setters,so maybe tempted to add one.....one day.

I will, one day, have a Clumber Spaniel. NO idea how I made the jump from Bull Breeds to Clumber, but I've always liked them very much.
We took time to find our HWV and I'd happily add more of these in future but I'll always find room for the sort of scruffy whiskery 'dustbin' mongrel that will accompany the kids on their muddy adventures. Watching my son and his 'hairy boy' heading into the hedge for a rummage or playing hide and seek together always makes me smile!
Whilst in France I've often fallen in love with some of the hairy hounds the local farmers favour and probably wouldn't resist one in the right circumstances. Several French acres perhaps! I have vivid memories of one summer holiday punctuated by a 'singing hound' and an earthy cursing frenchman in the field opposite. He came to the lake every evening and for an hour we'd hear the two of them 'shouting' to each other - very Gallic :)
Given the chance I might have bought them both home...
> On my unrealistic wish list is huskys
You can have mine! He's currently in disgrace for the handling of stolen goods and attempted disposal of evidence under a bean bag.
Caught on cctv!My wish list is something of wild goose chase, but there is a famous piece of footage from National Geographic of Siberian Tigers but in the background a hunter has a dog that is definately a Siberian Husky... so despite the Russian Governments attempts.. I reckon they are still out there *Que X~Files theme tune* Maybe in my lifetime I'll find an original line Siberian-Siberian (or ten!) :)
You can have mine!
Do you think Parcel Force would courier him to me?!!!!;-) :-D
Stick him in a cardboard box and get him sent then!!!:-D

As I have never chosen a breed of dog always just happened upon me!
Ones that I love are Rottweiler, St Bernard, black pug & tri coloured-Jack Russell, Rhodesian ridgeback- Oh and a tri coloured bull terrier!
If only I had a 10 acres of garden and massive house for them to sprawl I would get them all :-) Plus a horse and donkeys!
