Hi,
After a visit to our Local Park, to feed the ducks with the grandchild, we were shocked to find the Ducks and Swans so hungry.
The pond was all frozed and the Ducks and Swan's were just sitting on the ice. The Swans came up to the car window to look in for food.
After we had finished feeding them. So please if you have any dried bread don't bin it. Take it to your local park and feed those hungry Swans and Ducks. The park looks lovely this time of the year with the frost on the trees.

According to the experts, bread is an unduitable food for ducks, and could do them more harm than good.

Dry bread can kill swans and ducks but soaked well and fed wet is fine in small quatities.   if you want to feed them the best thing is to go and purchase some mixed corn.  Very cheap and very good and warming for them in this weather.

Thanks for that, we will do. We have swans at Prestwick beach at the edge of the Pow Burn before it meets the sea. They are amazing to watch all year and it is freezing here too so I will go and get some mixed corn and feed them

We have a variety of wild life visit us day and night, nothing gets wasted in our house, either a domestic or wildlife animal is always waiting for throw outs at this time of the year.

We are not allowed to feed the ducks and swans at our local pond as encourages rats !

Dobbies garden centre in Ayr sell swan and duck food.  I buy it when I am at the caravan park.

Aww thanks Irene, I popped into Hutchisons today in Ayr, the swans were at the bridge between the caravan park and the pow this morning, they were beautiful. Miller however decided to go an see them much to Stewart's fright and he ended up oxter deep in muck hehehe

Whereabouts is Hutchisons now in Ayr, I thought they only had the Mauchline shop.  The one I used to use in Ayr closed ages ago, I usually go to Pets at Home when in Ayr.

There were quite a few pairs of swans at the caravan park pond when the season finished, not sure if they are still on the pond or not.

Hiya Irene

There are not as many swans as last year at the Pow, Hutchisons are based behind MFI (closed now) just up from  the motorbike store and where Sally's salon services is now. I love Hutchisons, Catherine is lovely she laughs at me as I molleycoddle my boy. I am not sure of the street but you will find it no bother. I bet we have met on a walk, I hope you have not been ambushed my Miller at some point and we have embarrassed ourselves. What a small world right enough. What walks do you do? I am always looking for new ones.

Sandra
