I have had Starsky now since 25th September and has really come out of his shell. Become confident and has lots of pride in himself now.

My worry is that he continually licks after we come back from a walk mostly- either his feet or front leg- he did have a little sore that he had before I got him. I tell him to stop all the time, but every time this sore heals over after a little bit of nibbling it opens back up again.

He is a destroyer of toys- any ball or toy is shredded in a matter of minutes. Which he did not do at his previous home either so I've been told. When I do tell him to stop chewing himself he sulks off away from me and continues in the other bed out of my sight.

I can not understand why this habit has started after he has moved out of his previous home- first happened when he moved in with owners daughter for a week until he came here. I don't think he is missing his ex owner? he didn't acknowledge her when she came to see him after a month or so and when she left he sat in his bed and looked at me didn't attempt to go with her and her young son who I know he absolutely adored?

I have heard previously from people I met through breed rescue about a foster I had 5 years ago- that a rescued dog really sometimes needs a whole new environment to get over any issues from a previous owner?? The dog I had then came from my next door neighbour- they told me she would never fully recover from the bad treatment due to hearing them and seeing them on occasion- meaning she would never fully get over it?
Apart from the nibbling Starsky does, he has settled right in. I would hate to think he is stressing about something?

If there is no underlying problem (ie the sore is still bothering him) then I would put it down to stress of a new home. This can take several months before he realises that he is in his forever home. Having the previous owners daughter visit was not a good idea in his mind. He might have thought that she was coming to take him away again. Personally, I would take him to the vet to make sure his foot is clear of infection, and then give him time.
