Hi All

Just wondering if anybody can give me some advice as to whether i should be concerned or not, Robbie will be 15 weeks old on Sunday and is currently still on 4 meals per day, he has naturediet puppy with mixer biscuit for breakfast, JWB kibble for lunch, naturediet with mixer biscuit for tea and chicken and rice for supper, i am finding that his pooh's are quite soft and on picking it up leaves some on the slabs in our garden for which i need some cloth to wipe it up, he seems to go to pooh about 6 times a day which i am not sure whether this seems a lot for a pup or not, i am not sure whether puppies motion should be really firm or whether it will be softer he is fine in himself lively and eating really well has been wormed so hasn't got worms.
I cannot remember what my other dogs mess used to be like when he was a pup so not sure what whether this is normal or not, i haven't changed any food since he came home from the breeder and he is not having any titbits during the day either.
Just wondered if this is normal for a pup or whether i should think of getting him checked by my vet or not.

Thanks
Helen

he may be getting slightly too much food. i changed my boy onto 3 meals a day from 12 weeks onwards and he was on this until around 6 months when i changed him to 2. also, he may be having a bit much variety in his diet, perhaps sticking to one or two types of food and gradually introducing more over the next few weeks.
my pup had pretty solid motions from a youngster.

Hi Helen,

I would cut the amount down a bit and leave out the mixer, Naturediet is a complete food, mixer is not - it's usually too low in protein, minerals, etc.

As a general rule of thumb - the number of meals should equal the number of times a day a dog needs to poop!  Individual canine mileage may vary :-)

Hi All

Have been giving Robbie chicken and rice for a day now and his runny motion has cleared up do you think it could have been the naturediet that gave him this in the first place, i am going to start to reintroduce his food again and see what happens, my other dog used to have naturediet and was fine but he didn't have it from a puppy.

Thanks again
Helen

Hi Helen

Sometimes its trial and error with foods, I have fed JWB now for quite a long time, and Isla my pup is quite loose on this, something in the puppy food must not agree with her, so thinking of changing her on to the Butchers range and see how we get on with it. Older dogs are fine with jwb.

Hi Helen,

There are quite a few posts here where Naturediet is not agreeing with dogs that used to be fine on it, before they changed their recipes.  So perhaps its just not as good as it used to be - you might want to switch to one of the other wet foods, like Natures Harvest or Natures Menu.

Ike 's on Arden Grange puppy food.  It's good but they do poo more with it!

He was on Burns and he loved it but it made him really hyper.....It's real trial and error with their food; he had 4 meals up until he was 16 weeks then  to 3 now he eats twice a day and doesn't always eat all of it.

Good to hear news of you both.  :-)
