Interesting research is it jealousy though?

I read about this in the Telegraph and did think I could have told them about the jealousy thing :-)  Not sure about the other emotions that are mentioned in the Telegraph piece though.

That is interesting. It is hard to tell if it is jealousy or the fact the dog gets confused as to why it isn't recieveing a treat aswell as the other dog.
It reminds me of 2 dogs we had whilst growing up - littermate mongrels.
One day the male had hurt his leg whilst running, he was taken to the vet and they diagnosed a pulled muscles. The dog was limping for a few days.
The next day, his sister developed a limp in the same foot, we were puzzled as we didn't see her hurt it. The vet couldn't find anything wrong with her atall, no pain no problems moving the leg etc.. just this odd limp.
As soon as the males limp went, his sister's limp went. We can only assume that she saw he was getting a lot of attention with his bad leg and decided it must be worth a try!

I'm not too sure that research indicates jealously, more than likely the dog is confused as to why it's not being rewarded. Of course dogs do get jealous though, Molly hates it if me & OH cuddle, she always tries to get in the middle or even barks at us when we're kissing! & if we stroke another dog she tries to push her way in! I'd say that's more evidence that dogs get jealous!

Dogs do get jealous, We under estimate there intellegence. My 22yr old son constantly makes my 5month old puppy jealous, he only has to come by me and say my mommy and give me kisses. The pup goes mad pushing him off nibbling him trying to get between use to lick me to death. People who see it can't beleve what they see. Josh is my baby at present, he does not like to share me with any of the pack including family he knocks them away. As it happens sammies are by nature people dogs and excellent temprements so there is never any aggression between them. As he grows he will learn that he also has to share. I would never give anythink to one dog that I didn't to the others. I think like people dogs have diffrent personalites. Just because they can't talk we think the don't understand.
Proof has only been with chimps and grillors that have been taught sign language. But! they do have hands.
