- By tooolz Date 04.12.08 17:14 UTC
Rich and peaty -west coast distilleries like Islay, Talisker etc
or mellow and gentle - Speyside like Glen Morangie, GlenLivet, The Macallen or similar. About £20-30.

thank you! its for the bf who has expressed an interest. he likes very good vodka but we have lots of different kinds of lovely vodka already so am trying to get him informed about whisky.

it has to be Bushmills
My fella took us there and i hate whiskey however its so smooth and drinkable
well worth paying extra for the best of the best...
however a decent bottle of Glenmorangie is also smooth and very similar to Bushmills

Indeed :-)

A good protestant whisky......
and jamesons is a good catholic whiskey.....(just incase of causing offence!)
- By Vanhalla [gb] Date 04.12.08 20:47 UTC
I don't generally like whiskey, but I do like Bushmills, and I do like Blair Athol 12 year old malt - both very smooth.

My FIL and BIl who are both 'into' whisky drink 'Highland Park', my other BIL loves Glenturret from the distillery just outside Crieff. There's also Edradour just outside Pitlochry (smallest distillery in scotland) if you want something a bit different

You could always nip into Luvians in Cupar (do they still have a shop in StAndrews too?) and get their advice :-D

the hotel that we are going to for 'the meeting of the parents' specialises in whisky to, they have shelves and shelves of them. its like a library of whisky :)

Ditto Taliskers or Glemorangie, any nice single malt's if its a person that likes whiskey avoid a mix like Bells, Teachers.
- By Astarte Date 05.12.08 17:09 UTC

> Bells, Teachers.

gah! yucky yucky!
- By inthemistuk [gb] Date 05.12.08 18:09 UTC

Springbank whisky

Made in campbeltown Mull of Kintyre ( where Paul mc Cartney made his hit record and has 3 farms )

That wee bitt I added so you also have a conversation bit to tell them about the whisky

It ranges from £20 up to wait for it £ 7000.00 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and it is a very good one also lots of other types are made at  Spring bank distillery in Campbeltown depending on the age and blend that you prefer you should find a good one .

It is sold world wide so you should get one in anyy good off liscence or whisky store

http://www.scotchmaltwhisky.co.uk/shop/

I think this is a link that will tell you about it and other Brands

- By lilacbabe Date 07.12.08 00:18 UTC
yes £7000 is a bit OTT and I expect it would taste only slightly better  than the regular priced stuff !!!!!!!!!!
