Hi, My bitch had 8 puppies on Sunday. They are all doing really well, but I have noticed that the area around her nipples is getting a bit chaffed. I was wondering if anyone could recommend any specific cream that would be OK to use to sooth it but is still OK for the puppies?. I will have a go at trimming the claws in a few days time but I think it is more of a chaffing rub rather than claw marks. I though of 'Udder cream'? but it smells quite strong and I don't at to pup the pups off. Many Thanks

Not sure about puppies but I know savoy cabbage leaves can help with people, I'm sure someone will be here soon to help.

Calendula cream is good to rub on when she is having a break from feeding - it's caused by the pups suckling so hard (they have hearty appetites for such little things). They will only get worse I'm afraid lol! The joys of motherhood. By weaning the nipples will be less raw. Cabbage leaves relieve the pressure and ache caused by the milk, women are recommended to put a leaf in each cup of their bra lol.

Just a tip with the savoy cabbage, stick the leaves in the freezer for a while, they won't totally freeze but are really soothing and cool on the sore bits - this I can advise with personal experience:-)))))))))))))))))))))
Lansinoh(sp) is recommended now for women and doesn'r have to be washed - very good stuff but not cheap, could be thought about using on bitches???
