has the nail grown into the pad?
My last dog had this when I got him from a shelter, he had rear dew claws & the claws curved more than the owthes & they had grown under & back on themselfs into the pad. I just carefully clipped them off and made sure all of the claw was out of the pad & kept a close on on the pad for signs of infection (there was no probs with the pad, it healed very quickly, but the claw never left any 'rawness' it looked more like an indent rather than a 'hole' before it healed). If this is what has happened to your dog, then you need to cut them much more often than the other claws, they dont get worn down so appear to grow really quickly.
If this is a normal pad (not a dewclaw), you'll need to be very carefull about keeping the wound free from infection, as she'll be walking it through allsorts!
ETA, sorry, just realised you had allready said they were dew claws in the title (duh, I'm not with it today!!!!)
