When mine had it I waited a month after the last cough (that was the advice given 4 years ago)

we missed only Ch Show of the then pup by a few days :( but as I was sure we'd caught it at her first and only open show to that date I couldn't bear the thought of being to blame if others caught it from her ;) Mine didn't have ABs either, just olbas oil and tea tree on their collars, echinacea and Benylin and plenty to drink - chicken soups etc. They coughed for about 10 days, but I think they were putting it on for the last 3 ;)
Hope your others don't get it and pup is better soon
It's a real shame that vets can't give out the correct advice about KC, perhaps if they all pulled together and gave out the facts then there would be less of it about! Normally you would expect your dog to be infectious for easily up to a month after coughing has stopped. However, it can be contagious for up to 4 months after the symptoms have eased. For the sake of other people's dogs, you should allow a month.
KC is an airborne infection ... your dog doesn't have to physically be in contact with a dog to catch it, if a dog has been walked and half an hour later you go on the same walk, your dog can pick it up by airborne droplets, in air or on grass, or even drinking from the same water source. This can be a fatal illness, specially to young and to old, but also to those dogs that you may think otherwise healthy. Last year there was an outbreak in my area, and a perfectly fit and healthy 5 year old died as a result of it.
It is a huge inconvience if your dog has it, and life restricted to a small back garden with otherwise young, fit and active dogs is hell. I have never had a dog catch it, but I have been restricted to garden activity when there's been a known outbreak in my area, and I know from experience, the misery this can cause to multi-dog households, specially if there are elderly/ill dogs involved. However, for the sake of the rest of the doggy population, garden rest they must have.
You will hear many people say, oh but my dog wasn't too off colour when they had it and we went to doggy classes a week later ... that's not the point, it's what it's going to do to other dogs that's the problem.
Sorry, this is a real bug bear of mine ... think I'm going to start a national campaign to raise awareness in the doggy owning public, as well it seems with the vetinary profession! ;-)
BTW, with regard to the vaccine, a friend of mine has had KC go through her 3 dogs. Why? 'Cause they went to visit a dog that had just had the KC vaccine - this is a live culture!
I do hope your other dogs are OK and don't get it.
