Hello
Well it looks like Tessa, my 6 month old GR has got a mild case of KC. She's been coughing for the last 2 days when excited or playing. Apart from that she's lively and well. I don't think I'm going to take her to the vet's yet reading what's been said about KC on this forum and on the net. So I was going to try and give her some Tixylix. My question is : How much do you give and how often? She weighs around 20-25 kg (I think).
Thank you!

She weighs actually 24.6 kg
Benylin is what was recommended by our vets. However as it was 4 years ago I can't remember the dosage - perhaps someone else has more current advice. Have you tried a search on here for kennel cough? Maybe Benylin will find something as I'm sure I read it again recently.
BTW my dog LOVED Benylin and drank it straight out of the measuring cup!! :)
Benylin is what i would recommend. Try 5mls 3 times a day. I used it on my lot back in July when they had Kennel cough for the first time, they came down with it again in Oct thankfully they did not suffer as bad as the first time and didn't give benylin that time around. Hope your doggies are feeling better soon! :-)

I was about to post a thread about kennel cough when I read yours which is similar to mine. My sheltie pup of 5 months seems today to have started with a cough. Sounds like kennel cough, harsh with a retching noise, although fairly mild I would say. Is it going about do you think? I can't think how Isla got it as she hasn't been in kennels. I do go for walks with other dogs sometimes but as that is outside I wouldn't have thought she would have caught anything from them and in any case none of them has a cough. Do you think I shouldn't take her to the vet? I think I will have to get her vaccinated though (when this has cleared up) as she will be doing a few shows and is starting obedience training. My other two dogs have had the sniffer type vaccine so presumably will be OK.

Cheers!
Well Tessa seems to have gone over it and the cough medicine worked brilliantly, almost immedately. But now it's my 6 1/2 year old boy who's started coughing and as he's older, I don't want to mess about. He's been vomiting foam through fits of coughing when he gets excited. Think I'll go to open surgery at my vet's this morning to be on the safe side.
Pretty sure Tessa got it from ringcraft classes and then Sam got it from her...
My sheltie Isla is over the kc now but the two older dogs both have got it despite having partaken of the sniiffer drops vaccine earlier this year. They don't seem to have it badly though. I remember once my westie got it (she was only in the kennels for one night and hadn't had the vaccine) and she was really poorly and coughing up all that white foamy stuff. Soon got sorted with ABs but I think I will let it take its course with my two older dogs (westie and JRx) unless gets worse.

My golden had a kc when he was 6 months old and I gave him Benylin. I've never heard that you can give your dog Tixylix though.
