my little schnauzer bitch who should hopefully be 3 1/2 weeks pregnant, suddenly started being sick yesterday morning , and refusing food i assumed it was morning sickness but this continued all day and into the early night then she started having very bad dioareah with blood through it,i called the vet on calls last night who told me to give her 20ml of bolied water salt and sugar but she brought this all back up called vet again who said to bring her into the surgery,he took her temp which was normal but has kept her in and put her on a drip, how will this affect her if she is pregnant? how long does it normally last, its been 2 days since she ate, phoneed vet offered to bring in cooked chicken and rice but he says no food? house just feels so empty ant the moment.

Sorry can't offer any advice on this, but would you not be better asking the vet these questions?

Hope your bitch returns to good health soon.

Sorry to hear this Dipdaisy and I hope your Schnauzer soon recovers.

I had exactly the same with my Westie Lucy the week before last.  Had terrible diarrhoea with blood ( but no temperature) and was admiited to the vet hospital where she stayed for 5 days on a drip.  Duriing that time she would eat nothing although just before they let her home (when the diarrhoea had at last stopped) I did go in and hand fed her some chicken.

However after she had been at home for a couple of days she was much more her old self although I did have to give her just chicken and rice for a week or so.  The experience was very worrying as I thought I might lose her at one stage as she is 9.

I am sure your girl will be fine - there does though seem to be a lot of gastroentiritis around at the moment.

Don't worry too much about her not eating.  Her system needs to rest just now, and the pups won't be harmed.  You can put your girl on plenty of nourishment when her tummy will take it.
