Hello, I have an 8 month old Beagle.
He has really gone off his food- he has done this before but had a tummy bug- I dont think it is that ths time?

He wont eat his food at his normal times AND I literally have to either pour it onto the floor and make a trail from right infront of his nose to this bowl or I have to hand feed it to him- Its really strange. I feed him royal canine and he would still eat treats etc- obviously I havent given him many so thats not why he isnt eating right- Im jus not sure what it can be?

I doubt its the bowl because he fine drinking from the other one- and if I tip it out he still wont eat it- not unless I goad him towards it??

Any Ideas??

I think this question can only be answered by your vet. A dog not eating is usually a sign that they are feeling unwell (especially for greedy beagles hehe).

Just a thought but at 8 months his growth is maybe slowing down, especially if he's nearing the height for his breed, and he doesn't need the full amount you are giving him so isn't really hungry for his food? this may be why novel foods are more tempting to him ;)

Just been through this with my almost 8 month old (smaller and lighter built breed)   I just started giving slightly less food in each meal as she's still on 3 a day, but could also have just dropped a meal and increased the others only slightly ;)   she eating happily again now :-)

This is such a regular occurance with pups at this age and I've seen so many owners changing foods to try and tempt the dog when all they really need to do is feed a little less ;)

Of course, if you have any concerns about his health a vet is the person to ask ;)
