I have a six month old Bichon Frise puupy who at the moment is fed on JWB puppy food. It says on the packet he can now go on to their adult food. Is this a good idea? or does anyone think I should keep him on the puppy food for longer. The only other thing he eats are raw carrots for treats, anything else goes right through him.

If I change to the adult food should I mix it with the puppy food for a while? is it likely to upset his stomach even though it's the same brand?

hi, jwb also do a junior food which might be a good in betweenie. we are also in the process of moving over to 'big food' and mix in puppy with junior. at first we did a 70/30% (puppy/junior) split for about 2 weeks and then after that we mixed both types in our food storage container so each meal has a good mixture of both. will probably keep to this for a few more weeks yet.
IMO as with any food change there could be a difference in what comes out the other end and sometimes it's all just trial and error and adjusting amounts of new food to suit. although i have to say since introducing jwb junior my pups poops have improved for the better!!

Yes I saw that they do a junior food as well, though on the packets it says this is for the larger breeds and the smaller breeds go straight onto the adult. Hmmm, not sure what to do really.

This is interesting because I'm having a similar dilemma.  My 6 month old Japanese Chin is on JWB puppy pouches and Royal Canin mini junior dry.  The JWB says to switch to adult at 6/7 months, and the RC says at 9 months.  I think I'm going to keep mine on both puppy formulas until 9 months and then switch over to adult.

A bichon frise is also a toy breed, and I would maybe keep them on puppy food for another couple of months - toys are usually fully grown at about 9 months.  And yes, I believe the JWB junior dry is for larger breeds - the kibble size might be too big for your bichon. 

I think the same brand of puppy/adult would be of similar content (just with different amounts of certain nutrients) and wouldn't upset the dog's stomach if they are used to eating that brand.
