hi everyone, i recently had to have my 12yr cocker put to sleep when we discovered he had a tumour on his spinal cord.  He was such a healthy lively boy and suddenly just went off his back legs and could not use his bladder, we were all and still are heartbroken.  At the weekend we got a liitle male cocker and he is gorgeous, i have an appt on thursday for 1st vac but have noticed today that his ears are a bit smelly kind of like an old mop yuk.  My old boy we had from 6 weeks and he was 12 when we lost him, often had to have his ears cleaned but never had smelly ears.  Any ideas can i wait till thursday?

Thanks

I think you just need to do two things one check the inside of pups ears, if they look a little brown a quick gentle wipe out. 2. I notice that as they put there ears in milk, water, food the hair around the bottom of the ears - the bit in the bowl often need a quick wash and rinse and comb, it could be as easy
as food debris in there.
If not above and he's happy I think he can wait a few days.
What colour is he?

He is a little black one i'm taking bad because our old dog was orange roan, and we keep losing little todd.  I have been washing his ears (the bit in the bowl) and have noticed inside his ears are a little dirty looking but they are that small  i was scared to clean them lol.
Will give it a bash tho, thats if he stays still long enough, thanks

Anytime Ive got a dark blue roan boy.
A little cotton wall pad with a tiny bit of olive oil wont hurt - now keeping him still is another problem.

amazingly he was just perfect he just sat like a perfect little boy and made a liar out of me lol.  Didnt get much dirt on the cotton wool but his ears just dont seem too clean will see what the vet says, my sisters working cocker gets bother with ear mites, do you think it could be something like that?

Could be, you need to keep his ears clean and dry and apply Thornit powder into the ears after bathing and ear cleaning, he sounds gorgeous and if it's any consolation exactly the same thing happened to my older Newfie Cassie, went off her legs, spinal tumour diagnosed and within two weeks she was put to sleep. On the good side is that she never suffered a long horrible illness and the end was swift and peaceful...best of luck with the pup!!!

I agree with the idea of using Thornit nearly lost a 12 yr old Rough Collie who had deep ear problem which the vet couldn't solve and because it was so bad and she was in so much distress they very considering puting her to sleep as he also said an operation wouldn't help.  Out of desperation I used thornit and within 24hrs you could touch her ear and it completely cleared up she went on to get placed at Crufts and win Southern Counties out of 30 in Veteran she lived until she was 16yrs it really works and I would not be without it.

Just thought I would add I have an aussie puppy who had waxy ears at 10weeks the vet said there was nothing wrong but he was continually scratching and shaking his head I used the thornit once a week for 3 weeks and it completely cleared up he is now 8 months with lovely clean ears and has never looked back, it is brillant stuff.

Thanks everyone went to the vets 2day and he said his ears were perfect abd not smelly but i dont think he has a sense of smell lol.  He is shaking his head quite a lot and looks as if he is irritated a little, will get the thornit where is best to get it from the pet shop?
