Hello,
As a reasonable newbie to the forum, (and I'm completely prepared for a lambashing of this if I'm wrong), but disturbing as the documentary on the BBC was, why did it not highlight the fact that many breeders are out there, not for the money or the winning CC, but for the good of the breed?  Do they not know about Irish Setters not being allowed to be registered if they carry CLAD, and that now any setters born are guaranteed to be CLAD free if they are KC registered?  Surely that's a good thing that the KC are doing?
I found the programme very distressing to watch and yes, some points raised would need looking into, but I couldn't help but feel it was a tad biased out of favour with decent breeders.  I prepare myself for the roasting if you all disagree :-)

I don't think too many would disagree with you on this forum :-)
Yes, I do think it showed bias and so do the KC which is why they have put in a complaint on that basis and yes, there is a great deal that the KC do in support of the general wellbeing of dogs and reputable breeding.  On the outset they worked with the producers and informed them of the projects they participate in and support but the producers chose not to represent that side of things in their programme.

Because showing us as a group of people who love our dogs and love spending time with them and want to better our breeds is not good sensationalist tv. Showing us as a group of idiots who cull dogs, breed from sick dogs, and think it's ok for a dog to be unable to breathe properly makes much better tv. Grrr!!!
