Topic Dog Boards / General / Puppy making grinding, clicking noises with his mouth
- By MarkSurrey [gb] Date 26.10.08 10:16 UTC
Hi there,

Over the last few days, our puppy has been making odd grinding, clicking noises with his mouth. It sounds exactly as if he has two marbles in there that are clicking together. Whenever I hear it, I always think he is chewing something, but if I put my finger in his mouth there is nothing there. Then, once I let him go, he starts again.

Has anybody had any experience of this or any ideas of what it could be? He is fifteen weeks old, so he is a bit young for teething but I guess it could be linked with this. He isn't particularly distressed by it, though he has had diarrhoea lately which the vet is treating with Pro-Kolin and a prescription diet (as he doesn't have a fever). I'm a bit worried that he has swallowed something, but I cannot feel anything and he doesn't seem stressed.

Thanks

Watching him carefully, I think he's grinding his teeth, but it's a really loud and odd sound.

Hi
At a guess and it is only a guess I,d say he,s feeling his teeth starting to come through.
My Inga used to grind her puppy teeth and then spit them out as they fell out it used to sound quite alarming as I,d never experienced this with any of the others.
He,s probably just exploring his mouth a bit like we would after a visit to the dentist.
I wouldn,t worry yourself about it too much Inga ended up with beautiful teeth but I,m sure someone will be along with other ideas soon.

I agree that it is probably teething...all of my puppies have done this to an extent :)
