Topic Dog Boards / General / Pets As Therapy, Northern Ireland?
- By jackson [gb] Date 21.10.08 11:47 UTC
I am in the process of trying to get my youngest registered as a PAT dog. We are in Northern Ireland, County Down. The PAT assessor is over 100 miles away and my own vet won't do the assessment, despite me offering to pay for it, due to 'time constraints'. (my vet is uselss anyway, but the only one within sensible distance!)

So, does anyone know a vet who has done a PAT assessment before, or would be willing to do one?

Thanks!

A word of caution before you continue. I had both mine assessed back in May (I am not in Ireland though). As far as I could make out, both passed with flying colours. The assessor isn't allowed to tell you if your dog(s) has passed, but you are given the paperwork to post off with your cheque. I have never heard a thing & my cheque has not been cashed. I can only assume that there was a large influx of suitable dogs after the publicity at Crufts & that mine were surpuls to requirements. I went to a lot of trouble for nothing.

Hi Beardy

have you checked with PAT's head office, it may be that they didnt receive your paperwork. I am pretty sure that no dog is ever 'surplus to requirements'. As far as I know they are always crying out for volunteer dogs.

contact details are on the PAT website www.petsastherapy.org.uk

Hope I didn't put anyone off applying to PAT dogs. Thanks to Barbara (there had been a mix-up with the paperwork), both my dogs have been accepted!
Thanks again to Barbara for her help, not many people put themselves out for complete strangers. Go for it!

I live in County Down and am having my dog assessed locally. Just get in touch with the Ets as therapy rep and they will arrange it or you.
