Our bitch was 'got at' by a stray dog on Friday, while they were still tied I rang the vets and asked whether there was an injection available that she could have. I went yesterday and she was given 4, 2 in each side of her stomach and we have to return today for another 4. We have a gated (top to bottom) area within our house that we have kept her in since it happened (our entire garden is completely fenced in but somehow he managed to scale it to get to her!) and we have gone outside with her when she needs the loo. My daughter let her out this morning for her wee, went to school and left the gate open!!! Needless to say, when we went out there, he had managed to get in and they were tied again. I am so angry with the world at the moment, my daughter, the owners, Spains attitude towards animals, my bitch (lol), the male, myself....The male is actually owned, but is left to his own devices and is self sufficient with food (bins), so effectively a stray. My question is, does this render yesterdays injections useless, it is worth continuing with the one today or will we need to start a new course, at 50EUR a bottle and 3 needed because of her size I am hoping it won't be the latter.
We can't chance a pregnancy with her, she has a bad heart which is being controlled with various medicines and she is 7 years old. I don't know the name of the injection but I have done a search on this board and the general attitude towards it is that it isn't really effective. We can't have her spayed because of her condition and in the past she has had a bad reaction to general anesthetic, hence the reason why she never has been.
Any advice or information would be appreciated. I am at my wits end. I am dreading returning to the vets and being thought of as a bad owner.
One other question - I have always been led to believe that it is dangerous to try and separate them whilst they are tied, is this correct? Have I made it worse by leaving them together and increased the chances of a pregnancy?

Do you know which product has been used. You could then check it out on the internet for uses etc, and effects.
The most recent and effective one is Alizin, and this can be used up to about 40 days after mating, and at that stage induces abortion, so if your bitch was checked for pregnancy at about 30 to 35 days by scan and found to still be pregnant it could be used to ensure it was finally terminated.
