I use the Salmon and Rice as the chicken seemed to upset my youngests stomach.  Have been pleased so far with the food though mine still go off it sometimes but they do with any food. I pay 33.00 for 15kilos

I feed my bunch the lamb and rice - it really suits elkie coats - *shine*.  The boys are nice and lean.  Raider's just had his kidney test, and my vet commented that I must be feeding a good food as his kidneys are good for a dog of his age (having lost a cat prematurely through feeding a "bad" food, this is a concern for me).  Spooky has the senior food, as I'm trying to get some weight off her - she doesn't run it off like she used to.  I raised my last litter on the Prestige and was pleased with the result.
At shows, I normally pay around the mid-20s, but if I forget to get adequate stocks in and have to buy at a local suppliers, it's several pounds more - around the 33 mark.

I use the Lamb and Rice as a Friend gets it direct from wholesaler for me at cost (I help her at training class), but on the breeder scheme I think it is around £23 a 15kg bag.

I feed the lamb & rice and/or the salmon. If I'm just ordering lamb & rice, I order from ebay - 2 x 15kg sacks for £49.99 from the store that doesn't charge additionally for delivery, so £22.50 to my door. (Apparently they will also do different flavours if you email and ask.)

Hi Nikki

I feed the lamb & rice adult to my 3 (an Alaskan Mal, Samoyed & a CKCS). They all love it despite the Cav being quite a fussy little madam - she now gets so excited when its meal time. The customer service is also great, I recently emailed them about a problem with my Samoyed (turned out my OH was feeding her titbits - nothing at all to do with the AG) and I got a really long, really helpful reply !! If you have a query on the different varieties, why not email them as I'm sure everyone on here will have a different opinion on which one is best.

I usually order mine from Ebay from the site with free delivery - but I'm going to try a new supplier that HuskyGal recommended on another thread - works out at £23.50 per bag :-)

Baah, I've just realised I can't add up LOL. Remind me of the supplier for £23.50 a bag please ... !!!

Lol - I was wondering about that, but I didn't want to sound like I was correcting you :-) The thread was entitled 'Autarky' with a link to a website (I can't do links) - think the website was feedem.co.uk or something !?
- By Lily Mc [gb] Date 20.10.08 19:28 UTC
Aah yes, I remember now. Will bookmark it. Always open to correction if being a numpty LOL.

My boys were both on Nutro lamb and rice so when I changed to AG I decided to keep the same protein.  I've been really pleased with the food and I like the customer service you get from Arden Grange.  However they are not always the cheapest so I tend to shop around.  A few weeks ago I bought several 15kg bags from VetUK for £22.13 per bag.

I've also been hearing good things about the new Challenge Salmon & Potato food.  It's currently £27.35 for 15kg
- By STARRYEYES Date 20.10.08 20:55 UTC
yes I am in the breeders scheme so get it at £23.ish but you have to buy 2x15kg bags but well worth it much cheaper than Nutro dogs love it so ....happy happy happy!!

Has anyone used their large breed puppy food?
I have been sent a free sample and having tried it on my pup with great success I am thinking of switching to this.
- By Brainless [gb] Date 21.10.08 15:21 UTC
To be honest I would put a large breed pup on the adult if I wanted to reduce the protein and fat levels, as they are perfectly adequate vitamin and mineral levels.
- By newf3 [gb] Date 21.10.08 15:35 UTC
pup/jnr large breed at about 40.99 per 15kg.
Pup didnt do very well on it so i have swapped to royal canin jnr,  my other two love the gaint adult and it seems to suit them best.
- By Hugos There [gb] Date 21.10.08 15:43 UTC
Thanks

I have a booklet with all the food ingredients and analysis somewhere, I will have a look at the adult food content.

My boy is on Royal Canin junior now and loves it, but it seems to upset his stomach.

I used the large breed AG puppy and found that she did OK on it but didn't put on as much weight as I wanted. She also refused to eat it after about a month and a half, so wasn't ideal for us.
- By crazyblond53 Date 21.10.08 22:58 UTC
My GSD pup has done really well on the Large Breed Puppy/Junior. Nice firm stools, shiny coat, good weight etc. I find that I have to give him quite a bit less than the recommended amount stated on the bag as if I fed him the recommended amount he would be carrying too much weight.

> I used the large breed AG puppy and found that she did OK on it but didn't put on as much weight as I wanted.

That is the point of the large breed puppy foods compared to teh higher protein and fat usual puppy food, to avoid pups growing too fast for their bone structure.
- By Stormy84 [gb] Date 22.10.08 09:08 UTC
Sorry, should have been more clear on that one. I understand the point of the large breed, however I found that I needed something a bit different for my girl as she was a bit too ribby for my liking. In other words it did it's job but wasnt the product for me.

My boy is rather ribby too, but he is full of energy and growing at a fairly even rate so I don't worry too much. :) I expect he will fill out a little once his growth rate slows. I'd rather my pups were a little under weight rather than over.

My lot are on AG Salmon and Rice and LArge breed Chicken and rice. They do seem to enjoy it although the little s*d (as he's affectionately called), seems to take longer to eat the Salmon and Rice - not sure whether that's because he's forcing himself to eat it, or actually savouring it!!!

They all seem to be doing well on it - and the beastie (another pet name), has actually put on weight so he doesn't look like an RSPCA advert anymore. The only downside I've found is the amount of "waste" they produce on it, and although in the correct form - not as firm as it was when I was feeding them all Trophy. We buy it from our Kennels - Salmon is about £30 for £15kg and the Chicken and rice Large breed is £20. This is the main reason we switched from Trophy, they'd put the prices up to nearly £45 for a 15kg sack, and with the 3 of them we go through a sack every 10 days

We put our girl on the Lamb & Rice recently, which she is very happy on. However, she does sometimes suffer from skin problems and so I wanted to try her on the Salmon. As it's a different protein source, is there any problem with mixing the two up, or should we try and introduce the salmon slowly as if it's a new food (which I guess it is) and then stick to that to minimise digestive upset? Given we just moved her onto AG from Nutro Lamb & Rice, she has already been through one diet change recently.

I switched from Burns about 5 months ago (only changed as they put prices up), and I think I'm pleased with the AG.  Got 2 pups on it at the moment and they're doing OK. The only thing I'm not so keen about is the qauntity of poo compared to Burns.
I don't have a local AG stockist so have to buy it direct via the breeder scheme ... it was £23 per bag, but they've also recently put up their price, so I now pay £26.99 for Adult Performance and £30.69 for Puppy/Junior - you have to buy minimum of 2 bags and postage is £3.95.
Will check out some of the other posters sources though as they are sounding a bit cheaper.
- By koolcad Date 23.10.08 14:22 UTC
Just checked out the Feedem link - think their prices must have been upped too, as it works out cheaper via the breeders scheme.  Who is the e-bay seller someone mentioned?
- By sashal [in] Date 23.10.08 18:47 UTC
I have been totally converted to the Challenge Salmon & potato range (www.challengedogfood.com). Excellent food, the dogs love it, its a good price and 2 bags bought includes P&P

I was feeding Royal Canin but it is now so expensive and our dogs are suiting Challenge better.
