Hi, I wonder if anyone has a fairly recent copy of the KC kennel name book and if so if they would be willing to look a name up for me and tell me what the breed is? I've had a name turned down by the KC and am intrigued as to what breed apparently has this as their kennel name! Please would you message me privately if you'd look this up for me. Many thanks.

Does nothing come up on Google?

I have a copy of the Kennel Names Directory, if this is what you mean?
It doesnt list the breeds of the name holders. Just the initials and surnames of the holders. I dont know if the KC would be able to tell you if you were to contact them? Might be worth a try if googling brings up nothing.

I don't remember specifying a breed when I applied for my affix some years ago. You can apply it to any breed so not sure why they would link it to one in the affix publications.

I seem to remember specifying a breed when I applied for mine. It turns out there's a very similar affix (could easily be mistaken one for another with poor handwriting - lc can easily look like k) in another breed, but mine was still allowed. In fact I think if I'd been the existing affix holder I'd have objected!

It's very odd because you could buy one of that other breed and add your affix tomorrow.

I know. I was very surprised when I came across the other affix. Especially as it's in a breed I'm rather interested in!

I have 2 breeds and I was never asked when I registered my affix what breed it was.

I was asked when applying for mine and their was a similar one to my first choice but in a different breed, it went through but was then objected to after being published in the KC gazette, so I got my second choice. I think they will allow similar names but they have to publish the name and see if anyone objects.

It is the kennel names directory I meant, but I hadn't realised it just gave name of breeder. It's just I've had a pup name turned down 'cause apparently the name I've chosen is a kennel name. It doesn't really matter as they have to allow the name 'cause it's a dual registration but I'll just take it away from the start of the name to avoid any possible conflict with the kennel names. I can't put my kennel name first as I didn't breed her, else it would have been easy.
Thanks for your replies though.

When I applied for my affix I had to put down any breeds that I am interested in. However, just looked at the new form and they don't ask the question anymore.
Kennel Names Directory - How do you go about geting one of these and how much are they?
From the Kennel Club - look on their website in the publications section, think they're a tenner.

I did the Spanish for butterfly once, with my affix etc. in front and that was turned down as a Pap. breeder has it. Bit of a pain really because it's an every day word and I wasn't pinching an affix name.

We had allsorts of names rejected for being 'too similar' it took months to sort out the joint affix that I hold with my partner. Yet when you take a look through the directory there are far more similar sounding/spelt names granted in there.
For example I wanted Kingleyvale (a stunning place I walk the dogs) but was turned down as it was too alike to 'Binglyvale'.
I had a whole load of issues with the KC over the actual joint part of the affix and wether I was registering dogs from my sole affix into the joint. I sent three emails and a phone call before they finally understood that the joint would be for other breeds that arnt my main breed.
Good grief you'd have though I were speaking in another language to them!
As I said, it ended up taking months as oppsed to the weeks my original sole affix took to go through.
:-D Thanks i will have a look now. I knew you got them from the Kennel club, just was unsure where i would find them :-) Cheers Lois
My kennel name was turned down initially ... no one else with it, but apparently lots of dogs with it as part of their name, or sounding like a part of their name, etc, etc - I find that really hard to believe given the name I've chosen! I chose one last year but was turned down for same reason, didn't pursue that one at the time. Anyway, the name I've now got I really, really, really wanted, so I appealled. What the KC don't do is to take account of how old the dogs are that have the similar sounding name as part of their name (ie they could be long gone) or if they're neutred, but the appeal (4 pages worth!) was well worth doing and it was granted.
