Topic Dog Boards / Health / Prescription Charges

Hi folks

The law changed back on Oct 1st to allow veterinary surgeons to start charging for writing a prescriptions again after a period of 3 years when charges were not allowed. I have so far seen charges ranging from £12.50 to £20.00 being levied for writing them, but just wondered if anyone else had come across any charges yet and what the average may be out there?

I have read that it as from November 1st that prescriptions can be charged for again.

Neither of those was where I read it in the first place, but they both say the same (I suspect the latter means that someone has forgotten that October has 31 days. :-D )

Free prescriptions offically came to an end October 1st 2008 (Supply of Veterinary Medicines Order 2005), sorry to be the bringer of bad news. However it doesnt mean that they have to charge, just that they may.

Have remembered where I read it now. Some wires are crossed somewhere - because I would have expected information on the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons website to be accurate.
