Topic Dog Boards / Feeding / NATUREDIET OR NATURES HARVEST?
- By HAMISH75 [gb] Date 10.10.08 14:50 UTC
Hi All

Just wondering what people think is the best food for a puppy, naturediet or natures harvest? I have used naturediet in the past with my previous dog but have heard that naturediet have been changing some of their food and brought out new flavours and have also heard good reports about natures harvest aswell, but personally don't know much about this new 1, these are the only 2 i would consider as they seem to be the more natural ingredients options.
I know i have to wean him over gradually to stop stomach upsets.

Thanks in advance
Helen

I prefer natures harvest because it is more precise about the ammount of meat.. i think the harvest says 'chicken 71%' but on naturediet it says 'meat 50% min'

i think.. that was last time i checked anyway.

Just wondering why you have decided to feed soft food? Kibble like james wellbeloved has more nutrition and is better for teeth.

Can you explain what you mean by "more nutrition"?

I tend to vary between naturediet, nature's harvest and nature's menu! The favourite is probably nature's menu but that's also the smelliest (which would be why they like it best!) which some people find they can't cope with!

No complaints with any of them and would happily use any of the three, though I'm not sure they're as keen on the naturediet since they changed the recipe.

Im the same as Silver, my boy varies between the three, with or without his dry food. He likes them all, cant say which is his favourite as he eats everything like its a fav! My personal favourite is natures harvest, then menu then diet.

In the interest of accurate reporting,

Naturediet: Chicken minimum 60% ,Vegetables minimum 5%, Brown Rice minimum 5%. Omega 3 (provided by Flax, Fish Oil & Meat) minimum 0.25%,Omega 6 (provided by Flax, Fish Oil & Meat) minimum 0.75%, Natural Ground Bone, Kelp, Herbs (Rosemary and Rubbed Sage) Analysis: Protein 10%, Oil 8%, Fibre 1%, Ash 2%. I would probably put them in the same order :) And is it just me or has naturediet got even harder to open since they changed the packaging?! I always had to use a knife to slit it as the peel thing never would, but now I'm struggling to penetrate it even with a sharp knife

That'll be the diet one, eh?

So that's why they call it NatureDiet!

Hi All

Yes you are all correct the tiny patter of feet are on there way and i am sooooo excited, he is gonna be another little westie and i have called him Robbie he is 6 weeks old tomorrow and is a little stunner, i was lucky that the breeder i have found has been a very good friend to me since Hamish was poorly and we have stayed in touch every since she let me go over at the birth and see them born which was such a lovely experience so i have known him ever since he first came into the world, there were 2 girls and 1 boy in the litter and Lesley was hoping i would have a choice but i said i don't care as long as he is healthy thats all i care about i don't want a top show dog i just want a happy healthy little boy!!! I nearly got a pup earlier in April but had to change my mind because of family problems at the time my nan was really poorly and she had to come first but now she is okay i can have a puppy.
I am collecting him on the 1st Nov so only 3 weeks to go and i cannot wait, everybody keeps telling me the winter months are buggers to get them housetrained but i guess we will have to cross that bridge when we come to it and keep persevering with him, i am sure it will be fine.
Have been busy getting him lots of stuff which has been lovely, i never felt i would feel this excited again after poor Hamish and i will never ever forget him, some days i feel getting another puppy and getting excited means i am being disloyal to Hamish but then i feel he would want me to be happy and give my love to another little dog, Robbie will never replace Hamish as i would never want him to but he is gonna be good for me i know he is.
Thanks for all your replies i am swaying more to natures harvest as i think it is possibly a better food than naturediet but Hamish always did well on naturediet thats why i considered that, they do seem to be changing their flavours of food though as i see the original version has now stopped and also the chicken and tripe which is a shame, any more replies i would be interested to read if people are feeding natures harvest and like it.
Thanks again to you all for you kindness over Hamish and your support it really meant a lot to me, its lovely to be back on the board again as i really missed you all.

Luv
Helen

Ooh, congratulations Helen!

Perhaps you should feed him Burns, being called Robbie (lol, sorry couldn't resist!). What a lovely name for a Westie, very apt.

Woohoo, so pleased for you Helen. :-)

Congratulations Helen! :) I'm so pleased you're getting a puppy soon. Those 3 weeks are going to go so slowly! What does Robbie's breeder feed? She'll probably have some ideas about which of those foods would agree with her lines best - or maybe think they're as good as each other. It's worth discussing it with her.

Roll on 1st Nov!

Helen,

I am so glad you are back and expecting 4-paws very soon !    Hamish would be honoured to know that not only do you want a dog in your life again - but another Westie.  Brilliant :-)

its almost impossible to open. tell me, has anyone actually EVER managed to open it by peeling the top off? i try each time before i reach for the scissors to hack it open, dont know why i bother! :)
