Hi
I have an Irish Setter and I need to find someone who is able to groom/trim my dog to show standards.
I live in West Sussex.
Does anyone know of anyone?
Many thanks

I know someone in Plumpton who has Gordon Setters who does Grooming.

Let me know if of any interest.

If it were me better to try and learn yourself - can you speak to the breeder to help?

thanks Rachel
The breeder is in Aylesbury which is 2 hours away (approx)
I have been shown what to do - and as its my first dog, I wanna make sure I get it right, so I would rather learn from someone experienced than getting it wrong.
If you have the number I would give them a call
Thanks

Hi DKirkley, I too have Irish Setters. The grooming requirements are relatively simple so please don't stress out too much about it.

Are you planning to attend any shows before your puppy can be shown. You will learn loads from talking to fellow exhibitors, and watching what they do.

I have a link to a really good article about grooming, written by Dee Milligan-Bott, but I'm posting from work just now, so I'll post the link when I get home.

Can I ask how is your puppy bred?

Hello Dawn
thanks for replying.  I have two Irish Setters (both dogs) - Bailey will be 2 in December and I have a 13 week old puppy called Morgan.
I have never owned dogs before - I like a challenge!!
Bailey has done fun dog shows, but has never been entered for any companion or open shows.  I have seen a couple and spoken to a few people, and I am aware that he needs ears, chest, feet, feathers etc trimmed/groomed before he goes into the ring.
I have been shown what to do by another breeder, but I do not have the confidence to do it myself - thats why I was hoping to find someone locally that could help me!
Bailey and Morgans breeders are both first time breeders.

Hi Debs, I have a Bailey too. Mine is 12 years old, and not very fit any more sadly. My younger lad is 10 months old and called Rory.

What area are you in? As I said, going along to a show is a good way of finding out what's what.

There is an Irish Setter Breed Club Championship in the North East of England on Oct 18th if your anywhere near.

Hello Dawn
Bailey is a great name!
I am in West Sussex.
I will certainly get myself along to some shows and talk to other breeders - like I said, people have explained and shown me what to do, it is a case of getting the confidence to do it myself.
Are your dogs being shown on Saturday?

Dawn are you going to the north east show ? we will be there (wow what a trek  ) I will keep an eye out for you, although we are in mid-limit so wont be getting there too early !!

Debs, I am in the south (hampshire) I usually get my boy trimmed by his co-owner though, I can do it im just not that good !!!  who bred your dogs? do they show themselves ?

Hi Claire, yes I'm at the NEEISC this weekend. I'm not sure why I'm bothering though. I was at the Northern Counties Gundog Club this past weekend. Rory went best puppy in breed and Irene Munro was doing the group and puppy group and we got unceremoniously dumped. So I'm going to go the club show without sour grapes, and no doubt get dumped again. :)

It's my local breed club though so I'll put my best foot forward. :) It's important to support them isn't it.

See you there..........safe journey.
